In normal circumstances perhaps but this was a specific matter which involved a referendum to determine the wishes of the people. I believe that it was not a time to vote against those wishes for a number of reasons. I'm sure Ken Clark will receive stick.

I thought their constituents already voted for what they want. They should do what they are elected to do. Represent their constituents. That's democracy Gusset.

The case of the eu referendum is slightly different. But I maintain, MP's are elected to vote for what they think is in the best interests of their constituents, which may sometimes be dfferent to what the constituents actually want . Hill

Now I get it. We elect them, then do whatever they want. I genuinely thought they would do what we wanted. How silly of me.

She was conveniently ill today so she couldn't vote and couldn't betray either her constituents or Jeremy. Serving again, Diane.

I thought they were just a spokesperson. Like asking constituents questions in the chamber etc. And pushing for their wishes.

It appears that Labour MP's can vote against the wishes of their constituents because 'they know best' but should they vote against or question their 'leader', they will have bricks thrown through their office and have death threats posted on Twitter. Democracy works.
