Rishi Sunak has been accused of hypocrisy on the international stage after pushing for a phase-out of fossil fuels at the UN Cop28 climate summit in Dubai – weeks after backing more oil and gas exploration in the North Sea. The prime minister’s lack of “consistency” over climate policy was ridiculed by several senior Conservatives, as well as the former US vice president Al Gore, while members of other international delegations said the UK’s incoherent approach meant it was no longer a global leader on climate issues.
Stop trying to sell him to us.

Al Gore the well known scientist I accept Sunak is inconsistent in this and many things, he should be consistent and start fracking along with new oil and gas exploration. He is doing policy on the hoof depending on audience and latest opinion poll results. Edited by HKOwen (03 Dec 2023 12.30am)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

If it's good enough for London, the city I grew up in. Then it's good enough for everywhere else, no one should be allowed to escape what they support. If you live in a nice place and you supported mass immigration then you deserve what's coming. [Tweet Link]

No doubt they are all lovely. But this is England and it's meant to be populated by a majority of English. [Tweet Link]

The pretext is that mass immigration is needed for the economy. If this were only European immigration that argument just holds true though how much is another argument. However, the decision to embrace non European immigration is predictably disastrous. Only 1 in every 6.5 of those immigrants brought in actually work. All of them who stay will grow old and need pensions. As I've said many times, it's a human ponzi scheme. Total non-EU net migration over last 5 years: 2,008,000 Of non-EU: 309,000 work (15%) Edited by Stirlingsays (05 Dec 2023 4.52am)

There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics. Giving the impression that only 1 in 6.5 of immigrants work whilst 5.5 of them live off us is simply a lie. Those who arrive here as dependents of others entering on work visas are also permitted to work. Those arriving here as dependents of students will shortly be much reduced in number, but they are also permitted to work. Those who arrive on family visas have to be supported by their sponsor who has to show they are capable of doing so before a visa is granted. They have no access to public funds and must pay an annual NHS surcharge. After some years they are permitted to work too. They don’t all stay here, grow old and need pensions but should they do they will have paid taxes and NI like everyone else. Should they leave any contributions made will be retained by us. Asylum seekers are not allowed to work whilst their claim is being assessed. That’s our decision, not theirs. If much delayed they can, and some do. Those with humanitarian protection, whether from HK, Ukraine or elsewhere can work. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (05 Dec 2023 8.29am)
