Getting past Holland will be a challenge but if we do and our goal threat can be realised we should be able to match them. He's really cracked tournament football and is almost certainly an inspiration of Southgate's - the way they approach tournaments is incredibly similar. Key difference is that Deschamps is bolder in his decision making, possibly because he feels more empowered to be given his successes - he dropped Griezmann yesterday which would be equivalent to us dropping someone like Foden, which you could never see Southgate doing. He made 3 subs on 60 mins yesterday including taking off Kante for the much more offensive Griezmann. I appreciate it didn't affect the result yesterday, but I thought France created enough to at least force a draw - I wish Southgate could be as aggressive in his decision making when things aren't working.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

It could be proved disastrously wrong tonight but I feel like both Holland & Spain are good matches for us, at least in theory! It's obviously dependent on us executing a game plan and performing well, which is far from guaranteed given how we've played so far, but in theory I like the match ups. We will let them dominate possession, we can sit in shape and not concede many chances, and then look to exploit both opposition's defensive frailties as they commit men forward. As I said above, as good as Spain were last night, France probably had the better chances and just needed to be a bit more clinical in the final third to get a result. Yep. I can agree with all of that. We'll find out soon enough!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Apart from his hat trick in the World Cup Final. Two penalties in that . He had a poor game against a poor Argentina side and only really turned up after the first pen on 80 minutes . fair enough a great strike for the second then another pen in extra time . He didn't have a great world cup ,goals against Denmark and Australia in the group and Poland rnd 16 are warm up matches .When it matters in the quarters v us and in the semi v Morocco he bottled it ,same as he bottled it last night .

Just not a big game player , I think he will struggle at Madrid . Olise is definitely in the same mould. Be interesting to see how he does at Bayern. My guess is he will do well.

Arguing that a bloke who scored a hattrick in the biggest game in football is 'not a big game player' is hilarious and very Hol. He also scored in the final in 2018, becoming only the 2nd teenager ever to do so. He's also the first player ever to have 4 world cup final goals, and the 2nd player ever to score 8 knockout goals in the tournament (R9 Ronaldo was the first). 6th highest scorer in the tournaments history, and very likely to rank 1st by the time he retires. Fair enough. Football always elevates some players to superstar status (our media have done it with Foden and now Bellingham is getting it) and he's been one of those. Whether he's at that level is a matter of opinion. I haven't seen that much of him.

If the French had the same courage as the Spanish and played Olise we would have seen two very similar players cutting in from the right and peppering the goal.

As will retiring as the competitions all-time top goalscorer Kane deserves it more than Mbappe to be fair!
