Thre's still the winter transfer, so Batshuayi coming then after only playing a few minutes for Chelsea should save the season. As long as Zaha stays we should be ok. Exactly like last year, same players. Harder start probably without a good striker, but a beter one will come in the second part of the season. Just AWB missing. Important right back, but team could do similar with Ward/Simpson there. Hopefully. Real downfall will come once Zaha is sold, as clearly the board has no idea how to do transfers and this team will drop to the Chanpionship and maybe even to League One without a proper Zaha replacement, with the current scouting team's transfers. Matteo I applaud your optimism, but we could be dead and buried come January..!! The very least we needed to do today is to sign a right back - Ward and Kelly are woeful at this level..!! I don't think this outpouring of disgruntlement would have been anywhere near what it is if we had signed a half decent right back in this window - and the most irking thing is that we had 5/6 weeks to do it..!! Look everyone is looking for goalscorers and it's an absolute lottery with ridiculously over inflated prices for anyone even half decent - I get that..!! But not signing a replacement for AWB is just unbelievable/not acceptable. It's blindingly obvious we have no money I'm just really struggling to understand the logic given the perceived financial constraints of signing 2 central midfielders a position where we were reasonable OK but no right back - it just doesn't make sense..!! Does anyone know do we have a promising right back in the u23's -it's the only plausible answer..!! COYP

Striker, err, OK. Getting a striker in of the quality to do the job on the scraps our midfield supplies in this league was always going to be tough given our finances and FFP. But no new right back? That is negligence, pure and simple. Every team is going to channel everything down that flank. Everything! And it is not as if we lacked the funding. I have been one of the rosier tinted observers every window when most of the fans on here froth at the gob about perceived failures - usually based on wholly unrealistic expectations. However, on this occasion I am with them on our failure to replace Where is your “outgoings” chat now buddy?

It's not okay ... we've seen nothing happen to strengthen the squad where we need it most. We know what we're up against in the coming weeks but once again, we have to keep our fingers crossed and hope there are three weaker teams than ours. We don't need a big new stand in the Championship! Edited by Henry of Peckham (08 Aug 2019 7.00pm)

I don't ever remember being more disappointed with a transfer window. Not signing a striker is pretty bad but the lack of cover at fullback is criminal. Sick and tired of the constant Wilf saga - I would have almost been glad to see him go this window but then I wonder if we would have actually invested any of the fee in replacing him? Something is seriously wrong at the club and after over 50 years of supporting them it just makes me sad. Most of all though I feel sorry for the players, especially the new signings who to be fair aren't terrible. They must be wondering what the hell is going on. If the financial situation is as dire as the evidence seems to suggest perhaps it might have been better if the Board actually came out and said so. Maybe a bit more communication might have helped - we might not like what we hear but at least then we could have an understanding of why certain decisions have been made.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that. |

By comparison,we have spent how much with our loan signings, frees and tiny amounts on Messrs McCarthy and Ayew.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Right Back Free Transfer Or Loan Signings' by Midlands Eagle We recieved FIFTY MILLION pounds for our incredible world class youth graduate Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It has been a complete joke we have not signed a replacement and that Joel Ward is our only right back. So I take it Parish has a free signing right back on loan sorted out?? We certainly haven't spent much of the 50 mill so where has it gone? We are a London club that have been on the league a good amount of years and we are a joke. Smaller clubs are building better teams. I'm fed up.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Right Back Free Transfer Or Loan Signings' by Midlands Eagle List of only remaining free players who play as right backs: Simpson and Abate are a similar type of strong player, but kind of old at 32. That Eli Dasa is a wonderful player, but I don't know if he'd get a work permit, as he only has Israeli citizenship and their national team is not in the FIFA Ranking Top 50. Johan Larsson is a decent right back. Van der Wiel could still be a good option at top level, used to be very good at PSG just a few years ago, before some time in the MLS. All the above would be an upgrade from Ward, with all the respect for his defensive contribution.

Cheer up you lot. We now have a great opportunity to get some u23s time in the team. Last season our two best players were home grown, time for some more. I for one will be up at midnight Saturday ready to see us hammer the first nail into Evertons latest overpriced bunch of misfits.

Aaron only got a chance due to so many injuries otherwise he would of left the club.

Roy is not going to start blooding youngsters up front or at right back. You have to give him some level of credit over AWB, but let’s have it right, he got his chance... by chance. We had no one else. Actually, the one area we could’ve started giving youth a chance (and I was hoping we would) was, ironically, central midfield. No chance of that either now. A truly pathetic window.
