I have a feeling that this one is drifting away from us, like smoke through fingers, and if it does, nothing much will happen whilst we're on a beano in the US and Little-America...shame really
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

Yes, they have to be careful, but it's all speculation at the end of the day. If Benteke DID go to West Ham, bookies would still make a killing of all those who bet he was going to Palace and vice versa. It's like those talking about how bookies lost money when Leicester won the league... Not at all! They'd have picked up a fortune from all those people who had bet on Man U/City/Chelsea etc to win the league. They always win. In short, I wouldn't read TOO much into it.

So if it tomorrow someone reports that Stoke have put in a bid, immediately people will pile into those odds and the odds will tumble. It really doesn't take much, a £1000 bet will happily move something from 12/1 to 2/1 in these markets. On the other hand you are incorrect, both about the bookies always winning and about the Leicester result being profitable. Bookies may win in the long term but on single events we lose money every single day to varying degrees. These football specials markets, in particular, are a nightmare and regularly leak money. Additionally the Leicester result was one of the worst in the history of the industry. They were backed from 5000/1 all the way down and at most firms it was, in the end, a case of anyone but them being an acceptable result.

I'd say the bookies have the same amount of moles as the news outlets and probably more reliable ones due to the financial implications. The market/odds are not entirely reactionary and based on bets coming in. I do agree about the amount of money they make but they always fix the odds in their favour regardless.... While we were the only show in town the game was clearly to keep raising the stakes with double benefit of establishing an inflated price and buying time in case another bidder came along. I don't think he was ever coming to us and we have just been strung along to keep the price up. We should walk away.

It's all media hype, bookies etc. Nobody really knows apart from a select few people from either club and Benteke. They ain't going to be talking to media or bookies. So keep believing...,I must admit I look on the internet all throughout the day at the moment hoping to see some news regarding this move for benteke Edited by Pinkfluff1981 (06 Jul 2016 9.34pm)
