Ideally the club needs a good relationship with Sainsbury's. Who do you think "the local community" would rather have on their doorstep; a supermarket or a football club? Our support doesn't come from the locals who'd, in the main, be glad to see the back of us. There wouldn't be any "bad publicity" for Sainsbury's in this. The general population sees the PL as an entity swimming in cash and our argument over how much we should pay for a piece of land, that we sold in the first place would, at best, be met with derision.

My memory is that Bloye sold to Nodes excluding the land which he separately sold and coined. Yes Bloye is the man to blame. Sold a big chunk to Sainsbury's and for houses behind Whitehorse and then sold the remainder of what was left to Noades. Sainsbury's was already being built when Noades came in. Don't like the man but you can't blame Uncle Ron for this mess. The houses on the corner of the Holmesdale that also complain about everything we try to do were also built on land sold off by the club!!! Not sure who or when this land was sold though.

Very few 'locals' are the slightest bit interested in CPFC or it's problems with Sainsbury's. As already mentioned, who is going to have any sympathy for a PL football club, arguing about the price of a bit of land, that it sold in the first place, when everyone knows that the PL is awash with money. If anyone is looking like they stink it's us, with our £550m turnover since promotion. CPFC2010 bought the club and the ground on the cheap and couldn't, in their wildest dreams, have expected the kind of return that they've received on their investment. We had a windfall from the Pulis case, ending with us not having to pay his £3m bonus, despite his keeping us in the PL. We've had a £50m injection of cash from the US investors, so £53m, without having to dip into our TV cash. It's difficult for any outsider to see why we're making an issue of this. Parish seems to have an almost pathological desire to squeeze every last penny out of every deal, but he needs to accept that there are occasions, and this is one, where he doesn't hold the strongest hand. If Sainsbury's are quoting a price, and they're not prepared to move on it, then we either pay it or we come up with another plan. It's no skin off Sainsbury's nose if we don't want to deal. We will get very little sympathy from the wider football community. It's not like we're one of those really hard done by clubs that are under threat of or have actually lost their grounds. We're beginning to look like a bunch of nouveau riche boys having a sulk because we can't get our own way in a predicament that our great grandfather got us into in the first place. I agree with most of your post but the statement that they bought the club and ground on the cheap is untrue. The club was bought at a value that was agreed with the administrators who were legally obliged to get the best deal. If the club was being sold on the cheap there should have been multiple bidders. Remember that when they bought Palace, it was a loss making company and continued to be so until the promotion season and only make a profit that season due to the sale of Wilf to Manchester United.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Tis true....When you take emotion for Selhurst out of it. I think long term it's the only sensible option, if we were ever going to become a big club. Will it happen with all the wealthy nimbys living there? Time will tell.

Certainly a risky purchase, at the time, that no one else would have been prepared to take.

Will it happen with all the wealthy nimbys living there? Time will tell. Why not try to get Sainsbury's "on side" and collectively lobby for us to be allowed to have the Sports Centre. Sainsbury's always had political clout so this may be the way forward rather than antagonise the party who have the upper hand.

Not sure about this now, due to the Taxpayer's funded Olympic Stadium. Surely could overcome that hurdle (pun not intended!)

as a negative trait. SP is the anti-Jordan. Just because we do have money, doesn't mean we should stop trying to get the best deal. That's how you end up without money in a very short space of time...

That's how you end up without money in a very short space of time... There's a huge difference between securing the best deal you can and accepting that, when you lack the leverage, you may need to pay the price to secure a greater good. If our plans for the Main Stand are dependent upon purchasing back land, that we previously sold, and the seller is not bothered whether we do or not, then we either meet their price or change our plans. It'd be interesting to know exactly how much cash we're arguing about. Jordan refused to pay agents, possibly very noble, but ultimately futile. If he'd been a little less belligerent we may have assembled a team to keep us in the PL and ultimately avoid administration. Like the song says "you have to when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em". Edited by bexleydave (04 May 2017 12.01pm)
