And…. If he did these things would your opinion change? Exactly, more word salad to have a pop at the future POTUS.

Why would my opinion change?

I have been implacably opposed to Trump for over 12 years, have correctly predicted the sort of things he would do and consistently warned about him.

I have been pointing out the decline in standards and political attitudes in the USA for years and expressed concerns about us remains so closely tied to its coattails when it was clear it’s days as the most powerful nation were coming to an end. That was one of my major reasons for my belief that us deciding to vote for Brexit was so short sighted.

No. I will watch this year unfold with equal fear and hope. Of Trump succeeding and of him being stopped again.

Your views and opinions are certainly not isolated and shared by many anti Trump citizens in the US. All of whom will NEVER change their stance or position!

Joe provides a different type of chaos and stupidity which is equally unpalatable to his detractors. You pick your poison and vote on which candidate you feel offers you the best opportunities and standard of living!

It’s clear to me but happy to accept others will have a different view!

Not actually true. The bombs that ended WW2 were nuclear. The idea of that happening to you if you did it to them is the deterrent.

Not every burglar will be put off by a vicious dog. If they have a gun and are prepared to use it then why be deterred? Unless a border guard with a machine gun is known to be capable of using it they would not deter too many. In East Germany they didn’t hesitate. I don’t believe the USA would ever use such tactics, even if some of the MAGA crowd would want to.

We have different interpretations of the word deterrent.

I would honestly expect most people to vote like that. In the absence of any true ideological difference - as all politicians just talk crap and parties mean nothing anymore - whoever gives you the best standard of living is going to matter more than anything else. People will publicly bad-mouth Trump to look good on TikTok and then go and secretly vote for him. Safe in the knowledge that their lives may be slightly better or their pockets somewhat fuller.

I, of course, cannot vote in the USA but like many around the world wish I could as who gets chosen has more influence over the future than anything I can actually vote for. Seeing what happens there is painful.

If I could it would not be on what offers me the best opportunities and standard of living. I don’t think like that and I don’t think others should either. I vote on what is best for my country and for the rest of humanity. Not selfishly.

I don’t see how or why. It just means something that deters, but if you want to believe differently that’s up to you.

Gee, thanks.

I'll stick with the dictionary.

The LATimes had to lay off 115 people from its newsroom today. I don't celebrate anyone losing a job but the below headline makes it a little easier.

I agree with you. The problem is you are ok with people having choice whereas the poster you replied to believes if you don't agree with him you are defective.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Abbott, the governor of Texas, writes to Biden, announces that the 'federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States'.

The Texas military posts:

Oklahoma announces that it 'stands with Texas', and apparently it looks like Arkansas is sending its National Guard to the border.

DeSantis states that: 'Florida will keep assisting Texas with personnel and assets'. South Dakota and Montana also pledges to support and help.

Two Democrat representatives in Congress call on Biden to seize control of the Texas National Guard.

Spicy.

Drip, drip.

Really? You keep telling yourself that and one day you will believe it. Why bother voting if it isn’t for you and yours. If looking after said you and yours is selfish then why bother getting married and knocking out chavs. Strange idea!
