You would need to be inside the jury room to know how and why someone is acquitted.

It only takes one strong voice to overpower the opinions of others who just want to go home for a case to be lost against all reason.

I know I will be mocked for pointing this out but it is the hope of Trump’s defence that they can get one “hold out” in place on the juries that will decide his trials.

Did the jury decide that it is HSBC who have been damaging us (100 billion investment in fossil fuels)?

Quite an outpouring today against the rich billionaires, bankers, corporations whose carbon imprint vastly outweighs the common man and is directly harming the planet.

The issue is that this sets a nasty precedent. If the cause can negate a charge of criminal damage then where does it end? If I damage the car of somebody who has upset me should I be let off? I believe that I am in the right so why shouldn’t I be acquitted?

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

Yeah, but does Steely agree with your politics because that's the important thing.

In any normal state damaging the property of someone else is wrong just as would stealing it would be wrong.

The fact that it now takes the right to actually make a big deal of this says something about the decline of the left.

Who knows what was said in the jury room but HSBC weren’t on trial so I doubt it.

How a jury found them not guilty, given what we know, seems incredible to me. There must have been a hold out.

Since deliberation only took two hours the other 11 must have given up pretty quickly.

We’ll never know will we?

We'll have to conclude that stand out was so convincing that the rest of them changed their minds.

Wonder if the jury was swayed by the alleged cost of the damage which HSBC submitted. Perhaps the jury didn’t believe the amount and therefore by default swayed towards an acquittal.

It must have been quite a trial with powerful arguments on both sides.

And there is no dispute the defence admits harming the building.

A defeat for the establishment that needs order and consistency to maintain its power.

Only two hours of deliberation.

The context of climate breakdown and the role of banks for example unfortunately you would have had to be there.

Not if a unanimous verdict was required. If they were adamant they would never change their mind then the lure of release might have encouraged the others to just call it a day.

There is no logical defence for the wilful destruction of the property of another. In any circumstances. No matter how powerful the convictions. It’s not protesting. It’s vandalism.
