I saw no predictions about the dead filling the streets in Sweden! Only that they were adopting a different strategy which might work in their circumstances. Now we know more the more the doubts are emerging. No-one yet knows whether a second wave will arrive this Autumn, or what it will look like if it does. Because we don't know we need to prepare as though it will. Making comments about where I happen to live is as irrelevant to this subject as it is to every other. Clarity of thought and analysis of situations can often be better done away from the hubbub. I am in constant contact with my friends in Cebu in the Philippines. You want a really extreme lockdown go live there. Except they wouldn't let you in, as you are classed as too high a risk. It's the excess deaths which are really telling. Too many variables in the way the other stats are gathered. I am neither pro or anti lockdown and not the least bit ideological. I am simply naturally cautious and tend to trust real experts than self proclaimed ones. I am not going to get involved in a discussion on this subject but must comment that your 2 nd paragraph describes yourself perfectly

The virus has just speeded up what was inevitable that is the decline of the high street and new technology replacing people. I feel sorry for those that have lost their jobs or the young who have not even started but they will need to start looking at different areas of the economy as the stalwarts such as the food / drink / hospitality / retail sectors are dying on their feet. The care sector is one of the few sectors that will have employment growth. It also means the government must ensure we do not have lots of unskilled labour arriving from overseas as we will have more than enough of our own. Edited by Badger11 (11 Aug 2020 8.32am)

Edited by Badger11 (11 Aug 2020 8.32am) I agree on the decline of the high street but not so much on new technology replacing people, apart from obviously the high street. Young people and women will be hit harder by this. Males will deliver the stuff in vans, and the cheaper the better, from Europe is how they operate, with planned routes. It’s not a career where you can transfer your skills or manage the shop sooner than one promotion per dozens or hundreds of drivers. You’re just manning a machine (a van), developing virtually no skills at all. Rough time to be a young person or the usual disposable professional management level. This virus sucks and our economic approach to it stinks. The younger generations agree. It’s the thirty something virtuous lot that love this response.

Sorry I forgot that, yes I agree home delivery is another growth sector also warehouse workers. None of these jobs I was referring to are career jobs I was more thinking of the entry level low skilled ones which will be hit hardest.

A few comments. I have a scientific background, but believe what you want. Now the Government states there is little evidence that schools will spread CV-19. There is little evidence because kids are on their holidays, you retards. And I am falling in love with Nicola Sturgeon. How refreshing for a politician to say "yes, we messed that up", regarding the grading scheme for GCSE's, and used the word "sorry". On the whole she is doing everything right and politicians could take a look at her conduct and learn how to behave and do the right thing. And Sturgeon is better looking than Wee Jimmy Krankie Edited by Forest Hillbilly (11 Aug 2020 9.54am) Attachment: wee nicola sturgeon.jpg (8.39Kb)

Teachers and children are not falling ill to this virus anywhere. Nicola Sturgeon? Laugh out loud. The biggest liar there is. She’s like a child playing Covid policy top trumps. Her record on everything is terrible. Scotland’s care home problems were even worse than England.

I had temporarily forgotten about Sturgeons manipulation of data regarding making Scotland independent. Scotland is not economically viable being independent, unless it is propped-up by being in the EU. And the world data so far on CV-19 is encouraging that schools seem to be safer than they were a few months ago. However, the lack of data regarding UK school's safety is of concern. I guess the only way to find out is by exposing people. But wasn't that the 'herd immunity' thing that the Government initially swerved ?

And that is why you shield children who are vulnerable or their parents are vulnerable. Same in offices where the concern is someone vulnerable could catch it off a parent of a school child. You talk very well Rudi. My main concerns are: 1. Scientific advice has been politically manipulated, mainly over concerns with the economy. I guess the only thing now, is to suck it and see.
