Biden was the "anyone but Trump card". He is poor as a President. And now the USA is caught with a failing President and Trump riding a wave of resurgence.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

It’s a huge and completely illogical leap to suggest that just because anyone is concerned about a second Biden term they are either endorsing or even preparing for a second Trump term! It’s much more likely they are suggesting the Democrats should put forward a younger more attractive candidate who can explain their thinking better, in order to ensure Trump is beaten. I agree, and believe that will happen. The quote from Soros is much more relevant.

His task is over. Now someone needs to ensure it doesn’t get wasted. It’s so obvious that it seems inevitable that it will happen, the most interesting question being who it is and when they get announced. Let Trump waste all his rhetoric on Biden until the last moment or allow someone else to build a position early? It will probably be something in between. Change and relative youth are always attractive, especially in the USA today. Throw in the strong possibility of it being a woman and the picture looks brighter.

Once again the point has to be made here that Biden's interests and what the Democrat party want are not necessarily the same thing. Despite his fantasy refusal of the deep state and his use of word salad to practically refer to the same situation just cloaked in positive terms the Democrats are comprised of different power bases with different ideas. Biden holds the executive and Harris is his next in line. From what I've seen Biden is the most popular Democrat candidate to any other Democrat who has expressed an interest in running. It's not a matter of just sweeping a power base away it has to be done with there agreement and by all accounts they don't seem to accept the same reality that others do. Perhaps they know something about elections and what can happen to 'fortify' them. Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Jan 2024 9.36am)

It would be nice if they played this on a loop at every political party holding power. [Tweet Link]

It’s in no octogenarian’s best interests to live with the stress of being the President for 8 years. Only the self delusional who believe they are either immortal or omnipotent could possibly think that it’s sensible. Biden would be 86 by the end of a second term. Trump would be 83 if he got it. Both should retire but which of them is self delusional and thinks they are immortal or omnipotent? So I think Biden will retire but Trump won’t. I think Biden knows it and so does the DNC. They are being tactical in delaying an announcement. It may wait until after the convention when the DNC itself decides who their nominee will be.

The only reason either of them would run is ego so why should anyone care what's in their best interest? The leader of the free world needs to be someone 30 years younger than either of them. Anyone who's 80 who thinks they have the same capabilities they used to have, whatever they were, is only fooling themselves.

I would not want the stress involved in being President. At this age I want to enjoy my time doing what makes me happy. Often that’s doing things that either helps others or just makes them happy. I am not so sure Biden is driven by ego. I think he is driven by a desire to serve and protect his country but will be very happy to just retire when he thinks someone else can do that better. That includes making sure there is not another bout of Trump. Trump is driven by ego.

I don't know about you but I'm fully expecting Mitt Romney is swoop in and push all these MAGA extremists aside. I mean I'm not totally out of touch or anything. [Tweet Link]
