Lancet did launch a Planetary Health Manifesto, and the Economist has re-appraised Marx in a better light. Still we prefer covid-19 and a dying planet. Caused in the main by capitalism, the religion of the self and unending greed, a debt binge lurching from crisis to crisis. Does capitalism care about the planet, or pandemics? Not a sausage.

Closing down the economy to protect the NHS seems to be quite a big sausage.

Hmm. What do you know about the American Council of Science and Health? In 2017, 26 health, environmental, labor and public interest groups sent a letter to USA Today, asking them to "refrain from publishing further columns authored by members of the American Council on Science and Health, or at the very least require that the individuals identify the organization accurately as a corporate-funded advocacy group". The FDA said that the organization is a sham, an industry front.

It is probably unpopular with many Americans for the following reason. On 16 May 2020, The Lancet published an article on the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that, amongst other things, faulted the Trump administration for its July 2019 termination of a CDC programme under which the CDC stationed officers in China, ostensibly to serve as a distant early warning system.

I get it. It's the Trump Administration's job to police Chinese diseases. It's genuinely surreal.
