As I posted earlier he's been out with a hamstring injury since his game against us early November.

I think that you will find that he sustained his injury playing in the World Cup

The club offered Kouyate a 1 year contract but he wanted it to be extended for another year.
Club policy is not to offer 2 year contracts to players in their 30s and Kouyate was 32 at the time.

Yet they are prepared to offer contract extensions to the useless, sick, lame and lazy, Benteke, Wickham and Riedewald come to mind and then they offered Cahill 2 year contact when he was 33!

But the policy has clearly changed since then, so why drag up a previous policy? I'd be happy for the club to offer 1 year extensions with a further year option at the club's discretion.

Are you saying then that Wilf will only be offered 1 year extension and whilst there are many players in EPL over thirty who week in and week out put in excellent performances they are excluded from joining CP unless they take 1 year contract?

I suspect Wilf is a very different proposition entirely. And broadly we offer whatever he wants

But no, generally we shouldn't be offering long contracts to players whose ability will decline and time on the treatment table will increase.

In reality short contracts often have a 2nd year trigger, e.g. play 20/30 games and you automatically get another year.

Its a pretty straightforward commercial model, but we need to focus the cash on the guys that are playing week in week out and will be hte future of the club.

Tomkins is a good example, 50k a week and he has barely played the last 3 years.

I think Wilf was 29 when they put the contract on the table so it could have been a 3 year offer .

Worth it to rob B&HA of a deserved win at our expense however

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

MrRobbo's response to your post is basically the same thinking as mine on this matter.

All day long. You can add the spend on Benteke as well to finance his goal against them last season.

I am not sure you can have a policy that has specific exceptions, otherwise it’s not a policy at all and just a decision based on each player’s circumstances. I presume it excludes goal keepers too?
