Replacing Roy will be tricky. Dyche may be the safe option (and he's my choice) if our goal is to continue the way we are. But if we want to evolve what we do, the incoming manager has a huge task. Especially if we keep the same personnel. Fulham and Brighton are trying it but will they achieve the desired points? ..both are not too far off I hate to say.

What's wrong with you?

In the main the criticism has all been directed at the style of play under Hodgson and the dearth of goals and of course they could be inter-linked.The team have short-changed supporters at Selhurst Park. However in the final analysis he has met his objectives on limited transfer expenditure. In his first season despite the team not picking up a single point after 7 games, he kept us up finishing in 11th place. He has ensured that we remained in the PL for 3 seasons and this could well extend to a 4th season. Edited by Willo (08 Nov 2020 9.46pm)

The style of play is very similar to our style of play, but without the results. What, exactly, would be good about having Dyche?

With respect, I have never suggested Dyche as a replacement for Hodgson. In actual fact I have asserted there is no vacancy and unlikely to be one for the foreseeable future.

I don't hate Hodgson at all. Nor am I in a rush to replace him. The Brighton game was a shambles that really concerned me, but he's shown since that he's still got it. And the team still plays for him. Roy in. But his age (73) is ultimately going to mean we need to replace him in the next several years. It is simplistic to look at Dyche's record this season (so far) and say he's a poor manager. Indeed, as I said, he's my choice *only if* we want to keep going with our current approach. With a team on an even lower budget than ours he's finished 7th, 15th and 10th. Because my belief is that the wheels will come off fast if this team tries to play a much more expansive game every week without a highly highly talented manager to implement it. Roy has cut our cloth. Whoever comes next needs to work with that.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Dyche has said on many occasions that he needs to be backed with more ability to bring in players and is if not going to start to struggle, it's happening now and if he doesn't mix it up correctly he/they will lose confidence and that will be that, if we beat them next I wouldn't be surprised if he walks. He is a good motivator and works brilliantly with camaraderie amongst his players but if they continue as they are it to me shows that he is at the wrong club and ultimately the club will fail by not backing him, who knows how good he could be with us ...it could be a good gamble as much as a bad one, whoever we bring in will be one.

Hodgson has served as a manager for a period extending 45 years and has of course managed internationally and I believe he has been at the helm at 15 clubs. He has not had long periods between jobs over the 45 years and this speaks volumes for how he has been viewed over a long period.

Dont you realise that the new manager is already here. Once Roy steps down, in steps Dougie. You look at Roy's style of play and players like Eze dont seem to add up. Dougie is getting players he wants for his side. Plus there are no costs involved in getting him. The only thing will be if there is a top class manager available at the time, and they are prepared to come here.
