An article from Bloomberg today. Quite long but relevant: "Frances Cairncross, a politically neutral economist who led a review into the the U.K.’s news industry, agrees. “The BBC could do an awful lot more to reflect the views of people on the right of center,” she said recently. The director-general wants to widen newsroom diversity, including finding people from white working class backgrounds. But that will take years to have an impact." They'll just say that Stacey Solomon votes Tory.

Oh dear. You seem determined to ignore the perfectly reasonable point I had made, and your first paragraph is just silly. Is this the point you are referring to? "To take an obvious example, the BBC's sports staff don't need to know what's happening in the stock market, or the arts, or in the US election, or in North Korea." If so my response was addressed to it and perfectly reasonable in the context of the original complaint about the costs.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

So what do you think they should do? Employ a few extra staff to cut and paste, or photocopy, those sections only relevant to each employee? I suspect the cost would be greater than just supplying the whole paper. In any case you can often stumble over something interesting and relevant in the oddest of places, Who knows, maybe the taxman already extracts their pound of flesh from all, or some, of the staff.

George Osbourne is being touted as the next Chairman of the BBC. I think he would be a good match for them, a Remainer in charge at the BBC, what's not to like. And for people like me he has all the qualities that you would expect in somebody running the BBC. He failed as a politician then failed as a newspaper editor so I think he's going for the hat trick.

BBC enforces new rules on presenters We done to the DG but I don't understand why this was not in place already. I worked for a major corporate and we had all sorts of rules about not talking to the press and what you could and couldn't do in the way of political activism. I suspect most major corporations have the same rules to protect their brand. You would think a corporation that has based it's identity on impartiality would have the strongest of all rules? Anyway the DG is correct these presenters have been damaging the Beebs reputation and it has to stop. If you want to campaign join another organisation. I agree that presenters need to seek approval for outside jobs (same as my company) but oddly I am not bothered about how much they are paid for those. If you allow Naga Munchetty to do ads for a major bank they will pay her a lot the question is should she be allowed to do them not how much she is paid.
