If West Ham come in then he will most likely go there. The speculation that they need to sell to get him seems ridiculous. They have just got the cash from Tomkins plus the fact they are going to be making a killing from the new stadium. If they want him they can get him, and sell players afterwards to balance the books. When the possibility of Cabaye came up last season I was amazed, and I can remember speaking to my Dad on the phone after the transfer was confirmed. I was shocked, happy, proud of the club to have come so far. Lots of emotions. (Honestly I nearly cried. Probably did shed a couple.) This deal is not the same. If Benteke wants to come then great, but we don't need him. There are other options, maybe not quite as good but if we have 30 million to play with then something will come up. We shouldn't be bending over backwards to accommodate him or to satisfy Liverpool. I will be delighted if this transfer comes off under good terms for us as a club, but also will be happy if the deal doesn't happen because we're getting extorted. Watford value Deeney at more than £25m most on here would value Bolassie at atleast £25m so if Liverpool value Benteke at £30m based on the other 2 id bite their hands off! If it really comes down to £3m then as I've said before we can make that money back on the higher league position we'll finish in or by upping our value on Hennesey, Williams, Mutch etc

After what this board has done for us,I'm sure they are doing what's best for CPFC, no matter what way it turns out Palace 2016 in in a much better state than it was in 2010.

It's quite common for deals to be spread out, not for all the cash to be put up at once. So Liverpool could be taking the mick. Also the player may ask for ridiculous wages, bonuses, image rights because we're not seen as a prestige club. Basically any situation where the player thinks he's doing us a favour. I don't see us as that club but it's not unimaginable that Benteke would want a pay rise to come here as has been reported. Needs an extra 20,000 a week to "slum it" at a smaller team. All I'm saying is that I hope the club don't just cave in to other's demands. More so with Benteke's demands than Liverpool but we shouldn't allow ourselves to be bullied.

Additional point. We shouldn't pay him extra money to come here rather than West Ham. If they match a deal and he decides to go there that's his choice. We should not be held ransom.

Seems to me that he doesn't actually want to come to Palace unless it is his last resort. He is obviously waiting on 'that better offer'.
There's a bloke down my road who walks round in a Tesco's carrier bag. Turns out he is a brighton faggot. |

I am pretty sure the West Ham speculation was earlier... This appears to be reacting to it no? This is the most recent news. Plus why put so much faith in the betting markets? They largely react to people putting bets on rather than being 'in the know' themselves. Since there HAS been West Ham speculation, there was obviously going to be 'some movement' as people put bets on. Still, if he does eventually go to West Ham so be it. Not worth worrying about it/speculating.

You may be right but there have been a lot of reports of him having agreed terms. There have also been a lot saying we are still negotiating with Liverpool over the fee. Certainly don't think it's the player longing us off, at the moment.... Edited by Alex1991 (06 Jul 2016 7.13pm)

What's red n blue and stained with yellow? Crystal Palace supporters underpants when they try to second guess footballers decision making based on silence or rumour. If he comes, he comes and it will be good! Edited by pstrutt (06 Jul 2016 7.16pm)
So I manage a Workshop which provides a safe learning environment for blokes struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues. Being a Palace fan isn't listed yet. |

They will be much more careful than any news outlet.
