I mean veto in the blocking sense and delaying also court cases actually qualified majority voting too. The 'theatre' shifts to Europe itself this year I guess now we have to think what Trump may do hopefully leave brexit alone but he has so much power.

...and incidentally: The vision of a low-tax Britain that enforces fewer regulations in terms of workers’ rights on businesses has been a motivating force for a number of high profile Brexit supporters. What utter tosh. Because "low-tax" is synonymous with "fewer workers rights"? Jesus, the quality of Graun editorial just keeps plunging. You can see the bearded sandal-wearers spitting out their granola in outrage, as they tenuously try to make the link themselves, their neurons weakly sputtering to life in the left-side of their skulls. Skim down, and you can really hit Graun-bingo: "xenophobia", "Corbyn", "LGBT" among other gems. Pathetic. Actually, I think it's your generalisations that are pathetic. The article doesn't say it's synonymous, it suggests that many people who sought Brexit value a low-tax economy with fewer regulations. Do you disagree with that? Personally, I can also see how they can be synonymous, as regulations cost tax money to enforce. Some countries have systems that apply these regulations because they think it's worth it - that environmental protection, workers' rights and so on are more important than short term profit margins and mitigate the likelihood of expensive disasters.

Excellent speech by Theresa May. Contrast with in denial Tim Farron and hapless Jeremy Corbyn. I think she has just boosted her support in the country to even greater heights. Edited by hedgehog50 (17 Jan 2017 1.16pm)

One thing she forgot to mention; The EU will be holding the aces and deciding the final terms of our trade deals with them and not the other way round. Good bluster though, Teresa.

Edited by hedgehog50 (17 Jan 2017 1.16pm) What, for regurgitating the referendum campaign soundbites? I will honestly give due credit if her team can actually deliver tariff-free, unfettered access to EU markets "as promised" without being the in the free movement club. Until such time....what a load of empty rhetoric. Let's hope she's held to account for all of it in due course against what's actually delivered. (I fully accept that there's a chance she'll pull off a miracle and earn a landslide election victory on the back of it, but I won't be betting on it.)

Yep, totally agree. Easy for May right now to talk, shout and demand but it's simply to boost her standing in the UK to try and stop the panic. Most of what she 'demands' will never come to fruition during the real negotiations that will start in April this year. Big inflation coming the UK's way isn't going to give her any help whatsoever. No, for making it clear that we are leaving the EU and not going for some worst of both worlds, half-way-house that the likes Farron want.

No they don't and the lies spinned by you and your sort won't make it true. Neither Britain no Eurozone holds the Ace, however, both sides know that each other can damage them if they go too far. The City of London and the Wolrds fifth biggest economy has power.
