I definitely want to see the back of Roy and as soon as possible. But maybe it is prudent to wait for the right person to takel us forward into next season. I am a big fan of McKenna and think he'd be a great fit at Palace. Obviously if Ipswich get promotion, he won't be available. Talk of Southgate is surely ridiculous. Managing the elite from your country is a very different game from managing a football club and Southgate has almost no experience at club level. As for long ball football, wow. If the ball isn't in your possession, then it's most likely going to end up in the opposition's. Like an awful, wild clearance from goal, unless it's passed accurately, then it's just coming straight back at you. The days of long ball are dead.

This is a tough one for Parish. Normally, sustained poor results and a dose of fan disquiet do for a manager. In this case, there are other very significant factors. The big one is injuries and the timing of returns for those players. We know that our performances are far better with Olise and Eze on the field, and perhaps just Eze and Guehi returning will improve things. This isn't just a question of Hodgson bad. It is a perfect storm for indecision.

I suspect the FA are sweating on Everton and Forest's point counts. They will either want a team relegated on point count alone or so well clear that they can apply a defendable points deduction that still keeps them safe. Forest finishing, say, in 17th 3 points ahead of Palace is probably their worst nightmare

I don't think Hodgson is going anywhere until the end of the season. It looks like either Parish has someone lined up for next season in mind already, depending on circumstance (PL survival), or he can't attract anyone suitable of note in the here and now to replace Hodgson for the remainder of the season. Hodgson should have gone long before now based on Parish's historical record with other managers. Edited by southnorwoodhill (14 Feb 2024 4.21pm)

It's possible to be far more direct than we are without it being long ball football as per the eighties. Two things we could do immediately are: Free kicks: get them straight into the box more or less from wherever they are - except perhaps right in our own half. Passing out from the back: instead of side to side and backwards, get the ball upfield quicker. We could consider perhaps Munoz, Ayew and Mateta as targets - they need to make the runs. I believe both would speed up our tempo and reduce the pressing our midfield and defence come under. One thing that has been annoying me is sideways pass, sideways pass, back pass. The other is free kicks ending up with our keeper with no attacking advantage gained at all. You can't help but feel the shape and system Roy employs isn't working, hasn't worked and needs to change. Hence many calling for a new manager, myself included.

It seems unlikely that their current deduction will be overturned but they will stay up regardless. Of course, there is the Man City situation. If they were relegated, it would mean only two going down. Sadly, I can't see the FA having the balls to do it.

The FA know if they send Man City down, the Premier is over and Super League will commence. They can see what the Arabs are bringing to the top level. Big bucks. Bloody huge in fact, with plenty more to come. Dont bite the hand that feeds you.

With regard to long ball, if they change the offside rule to give the attacker another metre allowance (eg. Onside if any part of the body overlaps a defender body part) well then I could see long balls working again.

The Saudi league is already starting to collapse on itself with rubbish attendances and players struggling to settle - I can’t see that being a big thing too much longer. It takes a lot more than funding to make a great league, and that applies to both the PL and the Saudi league.

Southgate would be a disappointing choice. Let him cut his teeth some place else. Which is admittedly a weird thing to say about an England manager
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
