Somehow I don’t think the Biden administration would come to a different conclusion on this to the Obama one. Do you?

But they did. Obama didn't make the change. Trump did. And Biden endorsed it.

Endorsed it?

More like decided to accept that having recently done it now wasn’t the time to reverse it. Accepting a fait accompli is mark of a wise politician with other priorities.

How is that agreeing with Obama?

How is it not?

Obama didn’t move the Embassy when he was POTUS and Biden the VP.

Biden didn’t move it either when he became POTUS. I think Obama would have reached the same decision.

It's not agreeing with Obama who didn't move the embassy. It's agreeing with Trump who did.

We are going around in circles, which does unfortunately seem to happen quite often.

There is no evidence that Biden agreed with Trump, or disagreed with Obama, in making the decision not to immediately reverse the decision.

The evidence is there in plain sight but Trump trumps all.

It's a war that's out of control. Civilians being killed (both by military action and witholding of food and medical aid and electricity and fuel) and territory taken.
The UN has called for a ceasefire.
The collective West is largely silent on Gaza, as it is on Ukraine, Yemen, Taiwan. (shrugs shoulders)

As predicted on these boards long ago....but obvious to anyone with sense.

They are publicly silent on Gaza for fear of making it worse but I think there is a lot of behind the scenes diplomacy going on. I don’t imagine the succession of visitors that have been to Israel, and to her neighbours, went just for tea and cakes and told Netanyahu to carry on.

That there hasn’t yet been a full scale ground war is some evidence of that as is the, up to now, lack of any significant involvement from Hezbollah and the reported growing opposition within Israel to a ground war. Whether that line can be held and some degree of humanitarian aid arranged is the most important immediate question.

A few days ago I pondered if a UN peacekeeping force could be the way ahead and since then I have heard the same from diplomatic observers, with the additional idea that this be comprised only of troops from the Arab nations. None from the west. With relations between Israel and the UN in tatters that would take some work though.

Internal pressure on Netanyahu and the emergence of a more compassionate leader in Israel might be the only way to achieve it but it isn’t going to happen until there has been a lot more misery for everyone involved.

Being able to predict the future is a real bitch sometimes.

It doesn't really require supernatural powers, just the ability to see beyond tomorrow.

If only we could all be totally oblivious, like Wisbech.

Oblivious? Maybe you are!

It’s not the first time such a party has existed.

It’s now defunct.

Who knows how long this one will last, let alone how successful it will be but I won’t be holding my breath.

Typical though of the Express to report it and for it to be trumpeted here as some kind of revelation coming true.
