The biggest and most transparent non-democratic on show is Trump. He wants all of this froth and manufactured furore to divert attention from the way he tried to subvert democracy in 2020 by falsely claiming the election was stolen so he could hold onto power. Don’t fall for it.

I see President Trump is still living rent free in people's heads these days.

It's been announced that SBF is not going to be prosecuted for the 100 million he paid in political donations (mostly to Democrats) last political cycle. Shocking. [Tweet Link]

Edited by Stirlingsays (31 Dec 2023 4.23pm) But but only Trump is dodgy. I expect we will be told that this is not a political decision and it was not in the public interest to pursue. Edited by Badger11 (31 Dec 2023 5.00pm)

The dropping of further charges against Bankman-Fried was announced several days ago. It’s not really newsworthy. When he already faces the prospect of being jailed for the rest of his life there is little point in trying to add to it and prosecutors were concerned that another trial would delay any repayments to those who were defrauded. Yes he donated large sums to political campaigns and individuals with interests in regulating crypto, no doubt hoping for favourable treatment. He claims they were split equally between the Republicans and the Democrats, although he kept the former quiet. What’s pretty obvious is that all the recipients thought these were legitimate donations from a hugely successful business. They were fooled just as badly as everyone else.

Yeah right. I am not suggesting that the US system, or our own, is squeaky clean or anything to be proud of. Far from it. There is far too much influence on politicians from money as just to achieve electoral success costs a fortune which has to be raised from sources expecting pay backs. All I am suggesting is at the time they were made no one appeared to be aware of the depth of the corruption involved. I was always sceptical about crypto generally and still am but others not so.

The suggestion that the decision was resource led rather than political led is naive.
