But you are correct if we get to the final I will be watching from behind the sofa/ Edited by Badger11 (07 Jul 2024 8.18am) Yes. I think if it is France v England viewers will be warned about driving or handling heavy machinery. Then again I suspect most of us will get through it by being sh1t faced so that warning is likely to be superfluous.

Ive enjoyed watching the other games , though you might be right that the others are also playing the same risk averse football .Maybe its the stress that goes with it when watching England Yes I think outside of the top nations there’s been a decent game or two, I sat through Georgia and Czechia one Saturday afternoon, which I had no intention of doing but it was end to end and I couldn’t turn it off, the Albanians had a go and the Austrians were a decent watch. But these teams are obviously not going to win it. Maybe after all these years England have finally learnt a bit of tournament nouce and like the French, Italians, the Portuguese and the Germans who have all grinded, bored and rode their luck to tournament victories in the past, it might just be our year. So if someone thinks someone else isn't a particularly good coach, or believes that they aren't employing the right tactics to the pool of talent available, does that make them a 'hater'? Shorthand. Less words.

For England to win anything, there has to be a labour government. And, just in time, one has arrived. You see the difference in their play immediately.

Trippier had a nightmare season at Newcastle and at the best is RB, not a LB let alone a Left Wing back. Southgate playing him there really is beyond believe. As is him not taking a (or 2)proper LB, Chillwell or Mitchell should have gone surely. And sorry Ebs, Marc and Jordan: my loyalties will have changed on Wednesday Originally posted by Daddyorc
I've been watching England and Colombia. You couldn't have more different playing styles. It's like watching Palace under Roy vs Glasner. England have only looked at their best when we are behind. I'm hoping bringing in Shaw may liven it up a bit. Trippier is awful. Whenever he receives the ball he just sits on it and waits for the defense to set up and close him down. Then passes backwards. People have said Foden is a shell of himself, but I think having Trippier behind him isn't doing him any favours.

A serious issue is Kane. Normally our talismanic captain but not moving well. Back problems. The dilemma. He has to play but can't play. I would call Harry Kane anything but "talismanic". The man is a fantastic finisher but he has the personality of a margarine sandwich and is not Captain material. However none of them are. If I had to choose it would go to Walker.

I would say there is definitely a case for playing Watkins instead of Kane - Toney could still be a potential "Penalty Sub"

I usually find John Stones a concern for England. He's 30 and has nearly 80 caps but still looks vulnerable a lot of the time. Guehi and Konsa have looked a lot more secure.

True, was thinking that myself. However, I think we can safely say it's someone with Stones. I presume England will keep the back three. Walker was shown up a bit in the last game but his pace will keep him in. Gareth might stick with Konsa.

Walker was shown up a bit in the last game but his pace will keep him in. Gareth might stick with Konsa. I also agree but he is one the hallowed few who Southgate would rather wheel out in a wheelchair than play anyone else. Moving on, I have a theory about Luke Shaw. Total guess, of course. We need the best LB we have. England have tried options (e.g. our own Mitchell) but Shaw is probably better in Southgate's system. So he takes him even if his fitness is questionable and he has not played a competitive game for 5 months in order to build him up to match fit through the tournament. We have used a deputy out of position for the first 5 games as the team was just good enough in that set up. However, Trippier will be found wanting in the games ahead. Thus, a Shaw cameo against Switzerland and he may start against Holland and only then he may just be ready for... Dembele. He will tear Trippier a new one and we will lose if we play France with him at LB. A match fit Shaw is our only hope. I fear Dembele more than Mbappe. Ironic if we get to the final and play Spain. Then, Yamal is no slouch either.

He's got to start Shaw v the Dutch - seeing as we've been more right sided than a stroke victim being able to attack down both flanks will stretch their defence and will hopefully free up Foden a bit more. And I hope he drops Walker for Guehi - keep Konsa. Kane will start no doubt, he just needs to pick the most suitable forward, if we need someone to drop in and play a pass it should be Kane (or Toney) and if we need a presser who can run behind their defence it should be Watkins, but it will no doubt be Kane whatever the circumstances.
