I noticed that Arteta has signed a new contract at Arsenal and Man City are talking to Pep about extending his.

Good news for those of us concerned PV might get poached. I don't see him going to another club next season.

If it's up to him I think Vieira will at least see out his contract with us (i.e. another 2 years minimum).

In the PL the only clubs I can see PV wanting to go are City and Arsenal however Arsenal are not spending money at the moment so may not be that attractive.

No doubt Newcastle and Everton will be sniffing around but I think if he continues to do a good job at Palace he can leap frog those clubs and go to a top 2/3 one.

It’s great to read the early pages of this tread and how some seemingly, got caught in the headlights on Vieira’s appointment.

In our 9 years in the Premier League, apart from Zaha, nobody was wanted our managers or players so, I just hope Steve and Dougie have some coaches in mind who play in this brand of football and are also scouting players of that ilk that can step in as replacements and keep this model going forward because if we have a good season next year, the bigger clubs will come knocking.

Interesting read. Cheers.

The part about defence is slightly concerning but I can see what you mean with the players you've highlighted.

For me whoever is manager, unless we've got at least 3 new (improved) additions to the starting lineup then we'll be screwed (CB,RB, Winger/ attacking mid).

Our speed of player recruitment this summer is going go be key... let's pray it's a little speedier than our recruitment of a manager.

I went back to read what I thought about the appointment as I remember not being too excited about it at the time. However by skill or luck I feel we've landed with a manager who is currently the perfect fit for us. Eager, ambitious but realistic and a born leader. I've been really impressed with how he's transitioned the team from complete opposite styles. He comes across so well in all the interviews and the players really seem to like him.

Our summer recruitment went very well which obviously had a big effect on the season and we were also very lucky with injuries this season. Our CB partnership must have been one of the most consistent in the entire league.

Hopefully another positive transfer window ahead in the summer and PV can really get the Eagles flying!

COYP and well done Pat

I know he did the dirty on us by walking out and taking over at Bolton, you have to give Dougie lots of credit for the recruitment made. I always think back to what he and brought in during his tome as manager. Just about all his signings worked out back then.

For someone who was such a great player he comes across as a very humble man with no ego at all. He has also embraced the community spirit which the club has too. A fine manager and ambassador for our club.

I’ve always been surprised how he comes across as being quiet and well spoken and quite a gentleman. Because on the pitch he could be a bit of an animal, a real nasty streak, as Roy Keane would confirm.

And he should know as it often takes one to know one.

I’m impressed with how he’s managed the squad at times. Had me scratching my head once or twice, but for instance pulling Mitchell after a couple of dodgy games was sound judgement. Then giving him some minutes Saturday. Taken his time with Eze.
Hands up wasn’t sure, but wrong again.

I agree and this has been the biggest takeaway for me.

I have to admit I was... underwhelmed when he signed, I felt he hadn't done enough... to warrant it, however, I am not a director of football.

I mentioned this before but I heard through a friend that PV is well liked by the staff at the club from the tea lady on upwards.
