Good point, but supposing we have increased our offer to the full asking price of £30m, and the deal is still not completed by Friday, doubtful it will ever happen and we perhaps should look at alternatives. I'm sure the club have got back up plans. Would be silly not too as there may well be a bigger club who come in for him. However, look at Batshuayi. As soon as we lodged a bid, Chelsea were there scrambling to get over us. I'm pretty sure that there is no chance another deal is being agreed with another club and not one paper is getting a sniff of it. While news outlets can't always be trusted, there is usually a base of truth especially when it is being reported across the board. It's still 1/12 with Sky and 1/19 with a couple of places.

These massive transfers don't always happen quickly. Pretty sure when he went to Villa it took a while and obviously £30 million is a ton of dough to work out ! The Tomkins deal took a while from the first announcement and that is a comparatively small fee and there may be other issues with his wages. Cabaye may well have a clause in his contract guaranteeing him being the top earner for instance. I really hope this happens but it could still be a while. Also to alleviate the Spammers link... Why would either side want to put that as a clause in the contract? Guaranteed pay rises, yes. Pay linked to performance and league position, also yes. But why would either side want to make pay dependent on what other players might earn in the future? Is there any precedent for such a thing?

Rumoured West Ham interest. Suspect that agent is either shopping around still or is pushing disinformation to get us to up the ante.

Also been written into Ronaldo's latest contract at Madrid. Gerrard supposedly had it at Liverpool. Very clear why one side would want to put this into the contract, as it would mean them getting an automatic pay rise if somebody came in on a bigger wage. For the club, it can be a show of commitment. I don't agree with it, and certainly not saying this is the case with Cabaye but it is a possibility.

Pretty sure Terry and Lampard were meant to have a parity clause as well in their contracts for a while.

There clearly must be a break in negotiations because you cant spend three days over the same issue whatever that is. The other three seemed pretty keen to come here so if he is weighing up his options then his heart is not in it so pull out try to buy Gayle back for 15m
