I think I am now officially an opponent of FPTP.

1. Voting in a 20 year old student over a former foreign secretary makes a joke of the constituency link.

2. UKIP gets 10% of the vote but only 1 seat.

It is untenable.

Er we had a plebiscite on this in 2011 and a two thirds majority voted for no change.

Well I for one have changed my mind. I used to like FPTP.

If we had a referendum tomorrow - on PR, AV is not good enough - then I would support it.

Greens and UKIP get over 20% of the vote between them. 2 seats out of 650.

The Essenpee get a quarter as many votes but 55 seats.

It's untenable.

If Green and UKIP did get 20% as you say (seems slightly higher than the figures I saw earlier) then that still means that ~80% voted for Conservatives, Labour and SNP - most of which would vote to keep FPTP if we have a referendum?

As of 9.45am:

UKIP votes: 3,765,863 (12.6%)
Green votes: 1,121,363 (3.7%)

Total: 4,887,226 (16.3%)

Hell will freeze over before Cameron lets any discussion of PR get anywhere so it's probably pointless to even discuss it.

PR never suits the mainstream, well supported, which I guess after the ass raping Labour got in Scotland now means it the just the Tories who would rail against it.

and the SNP...

I don't like the idea of a national list of people for each party and then you get elected by going down the list in order depending on proportion of the national vote. The final step in the precise identity of and your liking/disliking for the individual representing you going down the plughole.I went to my local MP a few years ago about something.Someone I was vehemently opposed to politically. To be fair,he really put himself out and at no time enquired about my political preferences.

But,I think Single Transferable Vote within constituencies would be good and would change the existing picture somewhat.Plenty of Tory,Labour and SNP seats would likely have had a different outcome under that scenario, far more reflective of general sentiment within a constituency. The idea of voting for what you don't want is as legitimate as voting for what you do want.

Unbelievably depressing. Even as someone who didn't vote, I can appreciate how terrible a Tory/UKIP/DUP coalition would be.

I might have to take up smoking again.

You have no grounds to complain if you did t vote.

Why, do you think my vote could've swayed it?

Ah the 'you cant moan if you didn't vote' chestnut...actually yes you can, if no single party has enough about them to engage you enough to part with it then absolutely yes you can.

Different kettle of fish if you didn't do it because it clashed with 'Wheeler Dealers' then there's a point

I don't see how you can argue outcome if you don't participate.

You chose to opt out and then bemoan the result.

Is anyone else enjoying the sight of ousted MP's making solemn speeches about their fate whilst a Monster Raving Loony Candidate stands behind them grinning, in a silly hat?

I spoiled my ballot paper in a safe seat, which I think is just as actively participant as voting for someone who clearly won't win.

How are you coping with UKIP's failure?

I couldn't tell which was from the Loony party and which was the leader of Labour?

I predict that not only will the Tories be the largest party they might just get a majority. If not, they will go for a minority's govt rather than go I to coalition again and dare the opposition to vote down the Queesn's Speech. Going further, I think they will put something in the Queen's Speech to make it impossible for Labour to stand aloof - such as new union restrictions.

Can I refer the Hon Gentlemen to the above prediction.
Smug mode engaged.

Did I mention that I predicted it?

Think DC should send NS a thank you card as am sure fear of SNP (exaggerated by Tories) having any part of HMG scared many voters to support Tories - to prevent that possibility - though they would otherwise have voted elsewhere. NS stated she wanted to prevent another Tory government -when she actually ensured it !

As for PR of course we should have a constituency based version but no government with even the slimmest majority would countenance it. Like asking turkeys to vote for an early Christmas!

I'll be staying up for 3 reasons...

1. Somebody broke into my summerhouse on Monday night and nicked my Cider/Wine and I'm ready with a baseball bat if the little fcuker returns.

2. I want to be one of the first to see Nick Clegg lose his seat.

3. Sophie Raworth is hosting the coverage.... Grllllll!

Summerhouse? I thought you lived in a stable environment.
