Its getting rediculous now. The reckon an RAF bomber was shot down whilst returning to base...... By an American Patriot missile. Also 3 ITV journalists are missing And incidentally, the guy that got away says that they were caught in crossfire between Allied and Iraqi troops. And that the fire that did the damage appeared to come from the Allied side. So even more casualties -- self bloody inflicted. The TV crews have only themselves to blame for this incident as far as i'm concerned. They were so bloody desperate to be the first journalists to wherever they were going, when they ran into iraqi soldiers on there way. Instead of driving past them they decided to turn back to wherever they came from. Two armed iraqi vehicles followed them. As far as the American troops were concerned there were 4 unidentiied vehicles heading straight for them. What would you do??
I think Keith Murray said it best when he rapped I'm sure you'll agree. |

It's bad enough that people have to die, whoever they are and whatever side they're on. But when they're killed by their own, that's somehow even more senseless and tragic than the deliberate killing that war is all about. I agree that some reporters are crazy gung-ho eejits with a lust for glory, but not in this case. In any case, and whoever did kill them, it's just another awful waste of life in a pointless conflict. I'm glad these reporters are out there so that we can at least get a fraction of truth to offset the US (and Iraqi) propaganda. The job they do is essential in a society which professes to be free.

A Letter to George W. Bush on the Eve of War Dear Governor Bush: Quite clearly wrong.Whatever view you take on the opinion polls discussed on another thread , to say virtually no-one in America supports this is rubbish. 2. The majority of Americans – the ones who never elected you – are not fooled by your weapons of mass distraction. We know what the real issues are that affect our daily lives – and none of them begin with I or end in Q. Here's what threatens us: Two and a half million jobs lost since you took office, the stock market having become a cruel joke, no one knowing if their retirement funds are going to be there, gas now costs almost two dollars – the list goes on and on. Bombing Iraq will not make any of this go away. Only you need to go away for things to improve. Depends again on opinion polls so IMO not correct. 3. As Bill Maher said last week, how bad do you have to suck to lose a popularity contest with Saddam Hussein? The whole world is against you, Mr. Bush. Count your fellow Americans among them. If Mr Moore thinks that this was anything more than a joke i suggest he goes to rehab. Obviously not wrong by fact this one , but wrong to think that stating the Pope's views adds anymore weight to his argument. I've nothing against the old man personally but in a world where religious fanaticism is a major cause of unrest. His view on the conflict is no more or no less relevant than Eamonn Holmes view on snowboarding. 5. Of the 535 members of Congress, only one (Sen. Johnson of South Dakota) has an enlisted son or daughter in the armed forces! If you really want to stand up for America, please send your twin daughters over to Kuwait right now and let them don their chemical warfare suits. And let's see every member of Congress with a child of military age also sacrifice their kids for this war effort. What's that you say? You don't think so? Well, hey, guess what – we don't think so either! wahey There you go . A statement universally known to be untrue outside of France itself.

No Matt, death wasn't the only option, but these reporters must have known how dangerous it was to venture into parts of the country where allied forces hadn't secured. They proved to be a liability not only to themselves but to the allied forces nearby aswell. The troops that shot them must have had a split second to make a decision. Two of those vehicles had guns mounted on them. Do they wait for them to get close enough to open fire or do they take them out at the earliest opportunity.

Geez, who are you to say it was their fault? they were doing their job, it's worrying that so many mistakes are already being made in this war - more than worrying, it's a disgrace, not an 'acceptable and inevitable' cost. Just like all of the burnt Iraqi children are not an 'acceptable cost' in my opinion.

Lets be honest here Bexter. Who else can we blame for them driving off like that?? Who ordered them to do it?? They knew the risks of doing such a thing, and unfortunatly suffered the consequences of taking such a risk. This is a war zone for f*** sake, not a paintballing session. I know it's easy to blame the Americans for just about all the british fatalities so far, but on this occasion he took his job too far.

Apparently the Desert Rats are withdrawing from Basra after meeting heavy resistance. See? A quick easy war, minimum casualties. My arse.

This is quite helpful Indicates that tensions might be growing between the States and Russia though!
