what i find out of order is the fact that we openly accept temples being erected in the UK but if a small british, or generally white community would try to make a christian Church in Dehli theyd be strung up. PCorrectness can somtimes go to far one way...
Delhi is of course in India, which has large populations of Christians, Muslims etc 99.9% of whom live side by side with the majority Hindu community with no problems whatsoever. For the record, India's population is (at a 2000 estimate) 1,014,003,817 The breakdown according to religion is: Hindu 80%, Muslim 14%, Christian 2.4%, Sikh 2%, Buddhist 0.7%, Jains 0.5%, other 0.4% 2.4% of a billion is (I think) 24 million. That's quite a lot of Christians, not many of whom will have been, as you put it, "strung up". Why don't people think about what they're saying before they spout such drivel? this is an argument mate. By all means state that you disagree with my post, but talking the way you are is a bit too much. You disagree. Fine. leave it at that.

Also can you please send me a link where it says theyve erected churches right in the centre of these cities and helped make them with their equivelent of lottery funds. religion causes more arguments than its worth. I myself am a Catholic, but not a practicing one. Religion IMO was put there for us all to hang onto, something that was put in place years ago. Its a comfort zone, thinking someone up theres looking after you. keeping an eye out for you. its all bollox. Christianity/muslimism/CofE/ IMO!!

I think it boils down to a matter of choice. It's fair enough to take the piss out of someone who makes a wrong/bad/stupid choice, but to take the piss or abuse someone who has no choice - ie - colour, disability, sexual orientation, etc, is offensive.

Seeing as you have no choice with the above characteristics, that must be the case.

To put matthau's post into perspective, it tends to be the fundamentalist moslem states that prohibit houses of worship for faiths other than islam. And it's the encroachment of islam in this country that he's highlighting. India is a bad example but the point is valid. Edited by Cucking Funt (25 Nov 2004 7:15pm)

Yes, some Muslim countries are less than tolerant of other religions, but others aren't. You can't generalise about nations with hugely varying cultures and customs. The largest Muslim country in terms of population is Indonesia, with almost 200 million people. 10% of those are christian. [Link] So that's another 20 million christians living in peace with their neighbours. Highlighting cases such as Saudi Arabia, where christians are persecuted [Link] is valid, but shouldn't be held up as an example of the way whites or christians are routinely treated in places where they are in the minority.
