Prince and the Revolution (or am I pushing it seeing as Prince still played pretty much all of the instruments on all songs?). The Beatles are admittedly awesome in terms of influence as well as talent, but an equally influential band has to be (IMO) James Brown and the JB's. They are the root of all R&B and Hip-Hop music, as well as practically creating Funk!
