I've gone from a 'never go back no' to a yes - depending on the finances, who would be a better replacement for Olise? He's got his Champions League redemption at Old Trafford, I think he'd do better than Johnny Byrne did when he came back.

It's OK, his wages are not a problem, according to this(headlines) he's only on £72pw. Yup 72 . . . [Link]
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

You're saying this as if Galatasarays starting 11 aren't decent. They have a good squad. As for a "petulant has been"... might be because he was playing under Roy's football which is the benchmark for what Southgate is getting England to play. Bloody woeful, boring, negative ball. He's still a calibre above Edouard and he can still score.

If he was offered a sensible salary, I’d have him back. Certainly no longer a shoe in to start but could play anywhere across the front three. I’d see him as a good backup to JPM. His stock has dropped a bit and he’d need to accept that he’s no longer the main man nor could he demand a star player salary. If the rumours are true, I just can’t imagine he’d play for another PL club. Would be great to see him back home, he has 2-3 good years left and he’s a club legend.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

I love the guy but any money available this summer should be invested in the future and sadly that's not Wilf. He's a club legend and it can stay that way. Edited by samprior (02 Jul 2024 10.47pm)

I saw a few Galatasaray matches last year where Wilf either started or came off the bench. He seemed much more willing to play in a team rather than take everyone on himself. If it did happen, I think we'd be getting a more rounded player returning than the one that left. There are other factors to consider, such as what the coaching staff think about Franca, JRS and anyone else who might be on their radar. Olise has still not officially left. But if there is a gap in the squad after all the above is taken into account, and if the finances work, then I'd take him back for sure.

In my opinion it would be a backwards step. He’s lost a lot of speed due to his age which was one of his main attributes. Add all the baggage that comes with him on the pitch and money would be best invested in the future. Thanks Wilf but that ship has sailed and we have all moved on.

Big No from me. He does not have the work ethic required for a Glasner team. Look at how players have improved since he left, right across the pitch. He was a great servant to the club and we thank him for that but he was paid very well for it. He also held us to ransom until the end of his contract last year until the last minute preventing us looking for an adequate replacement. If he cared about Palace not his own personal gain he would not have done this. I hope SP will not push through his recruitment against a manager's wish like he did in the past

If he does not fit in the financials/stats, Dougie won't touch him. If he won't fit into the new "style", Glasner (who appears more hands on in transfers) won't want him. Unless all 3 are aligned and a lot of thought goes into whether it fits well and a fully informed decision is then made, it won't happen. BTW, anyone considered whether Wilf ACTUALLY wants to come back?
