It's interesting that some on here think he'll be no loss to Palace, and yet the new regime at one of the world's biggest clubs want to make him one of their first appointments.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Freedman to Utd?' by becky I personally think he does a decent job without being irreplaceable. If he goes I wont really shed any tears and I believe we can find someone equally as good.

A big loss in my view and one of our own. So many great memories thanks to this guy and he has brought in some great players. I think he will go and this is why the rumour never went away, he is also a big admirer of Ferguson. Great opportunity for Dougie. Of course he can be replaced and hopefully a plan is under way as I am sure Glasner would expect no less.

And yet, none of the bigger clubs (or our rivals) went for Olise, Eze, Doucoure, Guehi, Andersen, so what stopped these other clubs from signing these players? If rumours are true, Wharton chose us ahead of Chelsea because of the young talent we'd previously brought in and successfully used. Because they weren't ready for bigger clubs? Because they didnt need them. Because we could all but guarantee first team football. Not saying they are bad buys, but he's hardly Dan Ashworth. Nor has he any experience of buying players that are going to walk straight into the very top level. The rumour just feels so odd to me.

Mate - historically speaking they maybe one of the biggest clubs in the world but ATM - they are in a real mess..!! IMO that won’t change until the Glazers exit - whilst they remain the turmoil will remain - IMO now only complicated further by the introduction Radcliffe/Ineos.. Then you’ve got the influence outside of that from the likes of Ferguson, pundits like Neville etc.. Beyond that the Manager position is like a revolving door - think Ten Hag will be jettisoned come the end of the season. Problem you have is the culture is one where they believe just because they are Man U they have a divine right to be successful - that emanates from Board level down and onto the terraces. Anything else is seen as failure..!! In that climate/environment again IMO the DoF position is a poison chalice in the ejector seat..!! Whole thing is so toxic at the moment - wouldn’t go anywhere near it if I were DF..!! COYP

They have no idea what he actually does, some still ramble on about him walking out, when manager, but it was his team that got us promoted with players he unearthed.

Southampton hired an Austrian manager and lost their doF equivalent the following month; that went OK for a bit but it didn't end well ultimately.

Telegraph now saying United have distanced themselves from the rumour. Interesting; that's what happened last time the story surfaced.

But Radcliffe will be running the football side of the operation, so the Glazers will be less relevant going forward. It’s a new beginning for them, and Ashworth coming in is a sign of their intent. I think you could view DF’s potential role as a huge opportunity rather than a poison chalice. In any event, the point I was making is that DF is clearly more highly thought of by Radcliffe and co than he is by some on here.
