Turning 50 didn't bother me one bit, but I just turned 60 on Christmas Eve, and that was a completely different matter.

Not long now !!

I heard it once said that when one reaches 70, 71 etc, refrain from telling people ones true age, but instead utter 68,69 etc for the reason that souls view one totally differently when they are made aware one is in their 70s.

Of course this tactic cannot be used if one looks one's age or older ! There are quite a few who have concluded that my dear wife and I do not have the look of those of such advanced years and we are enormously grateful to receive such compliments.

Ridiculous statements.

No one needs to go to the gym it is contraindicated.

A large % of people have no energy for numerous reasons with the main ones being poor diet & sleep also stress.

Hrolf The Ganger comment about quality of life is spot on 40-50 is when people tend to start having disease/illness impact life especially if they have abused themselves for decades.

One gets a mental image of the various posters on here, and I've always seen you Willo as like Terry Thomas, but not a bounder or a cad !!

I turned 50 last year. I alternate between not caring and hating it. A poignant thing for me is my father never reached 50 and I guess that puts mortality into perspective.

I feel i tend to 'get away' with a bit more each passing year.
Last year I had a teenage girl hold a door open for me. That was a bit of a reality-check.
In the right sort of lighting, I can still cut a bit of a macho stance because of my height.
In daylight, with increasing regularity, I'm asked if I need a chair to sit down on.

I've been offered a seat on the bus maybe twice. I swear it's my beard because I'm still f***ing hard.

Wonderful !

Only recently I attended a grassroots football game and when I approached the gateman I uttered "Concessions". He glanced at me and tittered, believing I was engaged in a josh, and charged me the full adult entrance fee.
When I advised him that I was actually entitled to the concession price and could prove it by showing him my bus pass he was most apologetic, but I told him he had paid me a compliment !
