Ian Wright seems to have a problem with Palace, the club that took him from obscurity to fame and fortune .... I don’t think he has a problem with us, it’s just some choose to twist it this way because they can’t accept his love of Arsenal. Me personally I enjoyed watching him banging in the goals for Arsenal except against us of course, because he was and still is the best natural goal scorer I’ve ever seen, and I was proud he started with us and massively enjoyed watching him up front for that six years we had him for.

Is that correct? I know his second spell was a disaster, but I thought he actually did us a favour in the end and walked away without us having to pay up his contract Difficult to find anything online now as it's all about his death, but when he re-signed in the late 90s he received over £100k just to attend an interview with Walter Mitty Goldberg. He then signed a 5 year contract with a one sided get out option each year (on his side). He then got paid £1m post tax upfront for the first year of his contract (on the advice of his agent). When he left after 6 months he did claim he did so to 'save' the club money, however, i'm struggling to understand that as he had already been paid for year 1 in full. Later he definitely sued for the remainder of his contract - not sure if he got anywhere, it all went very quiet. This is the best i can find - says he was paid £750k tax free not £1m

A great man manager and coach who gave Palace and England some great times and memories. Managers or indeed players going back to clubs in the hope they can relive former glories almost always ends in tears! Let’s hope Roy is the exception that proves the rule!
