Been reading for a long time. I’ll be keeping my ID to myself. Love how you all try to shut down dissenting voices to the commonly held views on this site. Freedom of speech merchants that you all are.

Speaking as someone with a master's degree in politics who studied radical political theory, I can tell you that is extremely oversimplified and limited view of it. Far Right politics involves highly performative nationalism, ostracising those deemed as "other" in a "them vs us" mentality, extreme social conservatism, desire for homogeny and hostility towards freedom of speech and protest if it opposes your views.

Are you saying that by definition I was right in starting this post then? I think that the HOL has been far too right wing for a number of years now. It’s time to add a bit of a balance to the debates that populate these message boards. Fair is fair.

You are on holiday from the BBS and you want to stop as all being wrong.

Is that close to the truth?

This site is less right wing than the other one is Left.
We have Leftists here who whine on every day. You will just be another deluded lefty to dismantle.

Works for me. But please make the effort. Actually, try and formulate a position and then defend it. Helps all of us formulate our positions. And who knows, you might even change a mind or two?

But remember this is not the BBS. You cannot just play the virtue signalling card. Have some 'salt' about you. No just parroting s*** you read in the Guardian.

You just described Islam, Judaism and Leftism.

Again you're massively oversimplifyig it. There is authoritarian and libertarian left. Meanwhile there are left wing and right wing Jews and Muslims. You're thinking only about fundamentalist religion, which also applies to christianity.

Out of interests, what would be some examples of left wing Muslims?

Or are you confusing elements of Pan-Arab Nationalism which took on some of the aspects of socialism albeit of the nationalist kind?

Hence my request for the 'salt' part. I actually, being the sad politics geek I have morphed into, listen to a few left-wing commentators and have learned some things from them. They can, when not hampered by the almost chronic need for group-think adherence that many of them now possess, on occassion raise some interesting points.

Did your degree teach you objectivity and humility?

What you listed equally applies to just about any religious or political demographic, give or take.

To single out 'The Right' is just bias.

Each individual will have differing opinions, but may share the majority of views with a group of others.
When you belong to a self identified group, you might choose to uphold shared beliefs publicly and underplay differences, or even express opinions that you either don't actually agree with or have no reasoning with which to justify them, simply to be a team player.

The over simplification is coming from you.

Well before the Taliban returned and banned them all, there were several left wing parties in Afghanistan including the progressive Watan Party who were Muslim secularists, believing in a separation of church and state so people can practice Islam without letting it influence policy. Much like most European countries are supposed to be if not for the Christian Right.

I have never considered my views to be a long way from some traditional socialist ideals.

What we often have now is something very different.

Obviously I'm singling out the far right, that's the topic of this thread in case you haven't noticed.
