Well they were back in the late 70’s and early 80’s but have literally have been in the doldrums for 40 years. Not sure how they can spend so much in such a short time after only being in the Premiership for 2 seasons.

We should ask ourselves how have teams like Forest, Brentford and Bournemouth managed to get where they are in such a short space of time?

Their recruitment is better than ours, currently - although I could find flaws with any of them. Brentford closed their academy believing they were better off just to scout for the first team. They've been forced to reopen it. Forest, obviously, have signed too many - they should have thought about developing some of what they had like Brennan Johnson. Bournemouth have not performed that well considering their spend - on paper they made some really good signings. But Bournemouth's ground is still crap. It exists to make Selhurst look good. Not much improvement in infrastructure at Brentford currently either - although they may have plans I'm unaware of. Forest have always been a big side. They dominate their city and have always been a name in football. I suppose what's more annoying is to be in the Premier League this long but still feel like imposters. We still seem to have, or even want/crave, a small club mentality.
As for the transfer window; name our current decent wide players. The list consists of Olise - injured, next best is Ayew - ok, next is between Mitchell and Schlupp. Need I go on?

I think all the players brought in look like good signings.

The only problem being what we really needed were (at least one, if not two) better quality full backs, and a striker who can actually put the ball in the net. Which we seem to have ignored again.

But I don't doubt that inflated prices, caused by Saudi, and the top of the EPL, have made it almost impossible to find good quality for a reasonable price.

We should finish comfortably mid-table this year. The question already is what to do post Roy.

At the end of the season Palace had FIVE players who could easily have been bought by Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool Spurs and who knows who else. Olise, Ebs, Decoure Guehi and Anderssen have all stayed even though up to yesterday there was talk of Ebs going to Spurs. That they didn't is all praise to Parish and Freedman. They kept a really good squad together. Plus Palace have another top class goalkeeper, a proven EPL defender, a potentially excellent attacking striker/midfielder and another really fine midfielder. Further Palace have three players in the England squad.

Running a football club is not the same as playing a video game - it's real RESPONSIBLE life! Yet all I read on these pages are pitiful bleatings from the same NEGATIVE MOANERS!!!

Yawns

We received an offer for 1 player only Olise the rest of the names was all media speculation.

Nothing to do with SP or Freedman.

If a club comes in for people now clubs don't really have any power at all it's all about the players really and we have seen this already.

Your post is a joke right

Holding proven EPL defender WHAT.

Top class goalkeeper yet he has been dumped by United. (has 1 England cap back in 2020)

Palace already had England capped players Eze, Johnstone, Mitchell, Guehi, Clyne (3 of those had been called up for this current squad)

When people like yourself do not have proper arguments you come out with the silly comments about the likes of Football Manager (I would like to point out all the data in that game is from scouts with over 90% of it being the same data clubs pay for some managers in the past even mentioned using it as a tool)

How can you be really happy every one else is doing something yet we a club who has been in this league for over a decade go for rejects or do nothing happy to keep resigning 30+ year olds.

I have to report that I have been in conversations with a plethora of supporters and the consensus can be filed under "Underwhelmed" or "Disappointed".

Some of the negatives concerned Holding with those asserting that he only got a handful of starts in the PL last season and has been criticised for his performances. "No pace", "Gets too close to opponents and gets done on the turn" were just some of the negatives. Not impressed at all. Someone commented "A cheap option" etc etc.

Whilst some welcomed Franca some did say that most of his appearances for Flamengo have been from the substitutes bench so he is not some "Wonderkid" ready to be thrust into the PL.

No strengthening in the forwards department so we are left with Eduoard and Mateta !! No cover at left-back and we still have two right-backs in their 30s and in the twilight of their careers.

Henderson also came in for criticism but there was universal praise for Lerma.

Overall - "Excreta" !!!! These chaps are not 'Rays of sunshine' and negativity does have a proclivity to ooze from their pores !!!

For me a decent window, 36m on 4 players, Lerma excellent, Henderson good, two decent Keepers, i expect Guaitas contract to be ended, Holding for 4m ok, and i suppose Franca must be decent, if he is ever fit, keeping all our best players, the one disappointment for me is Burnley getting Mike Tresor on loan, he is going to be one hell of a player, and wouldnt have been expensive from Genk.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Well, it's all about opinions.

My mate, who has an Arsenal season ticket, reckons Holding is good business for us.

Don't you just hate transfer windows? Well, I certainly do - all those rumours and counter rumours, stupid clickbait gossip making no sense at all, agents pushing their clapped out stars for ridiculous money.

Oh yes, the money. Billions have been spent. Change for the sake of change. The Saudis still in the hunt for Salah with a possible offer of £200 million.

If we must go along with this meat market approach to buying and selling players, then I reckon we did OK. So, we lost Wilf, but we kept the rest of our star players who, according to the gossip, were highly rated by other clubs. Keeping Olise felt like a big coup, the same goes for Eze - wonderful business.

I'm delighted with the way Mr Parish managed the whole process, except for the fact we still don't have a first rate striker

My heart says Oh no we didn't replace Wilf or sign a striker.

My head says we kept Olise and the other key players.

One could argue that he has not cost a great deal, provides cover both in central defence and at right-back and he has made nearly 100 appearances in the PL.

Are people not aware Guaita has left?

[Link] - Celta have announced he's joined.

Hilariously, Palace just don't fancy giving him the air time to announce it.
