Going back to that thread asking why Roy doesn't make more subs, this is the evidence of the obvious answer.

Those sitting on the bench, especially the midfield, are showing no evidence that they are good enough to compete with those in front of them who have had to bail them out.

We are paper thin - hopefully we can do something in the final days of the window.

That was my take on the game, only when Roy added three of our first pick mid fielders was the fat pulled out of the fire. If anyone has doubts that this squad needs filling out , surely that first 55 minutes must tell them that it does..
Imagine if the four that came on were not available , or got injured in a run of games, and had to be replaced by the players that came off tonight, the boot would be on the other foot , and it doesn’t look good.

I seem to remember going up to Walsall in this round 8 or 9 years ago and Dwight Gayle got a hat trick!’

Three good finishes from Mateta and he shoots like he means it as opposed to Edouard whose placed attempts are often blocked or easily read.
Mateta probably isn't the answer for us and he may well leave, but he's not a bad finisher if presented with chances.

Mateta and hat trick - never thought I'd hear that

The commentators said he scored more goals in 30 minutes tonight than he did in the entire previous season!

What would we do without Eze? The strikers did well , but only because that boy opened Plymouth up and had a hand in the goals.

I remember when we only had one decent player. Now we have a whole team but you are complaining that it’s only one team.

Well done lads.
It's stressful enough with Palace without not being able to enjoy a win like that. I don't care who it's against we have to be happy with 4 away goals (and 1 disallowed) especially after being 2 down.

Maybe we should start Mateta on Sunday. Didn’t he score a last minute winner last season against Wolves?

My first game for a long time and three things really stood out:
Edouard can't jump
Eze frightens opponents.
Ayew is underrated

There were at least 4 opportunities to put Edouard through but the ball was played wide. Give him a better feed and see what happens.

I was deeply concerned when Plymouth went 2-0 to the good, but credit to our lads for turning the game on its head and securing a place in the next round.

I was there as well, and Dwight Gayle scored a hat trick in the first half.

Just what does this say about Riedewald, Ahamada and Rak-Sakyi?

Riedwald has been here a long time and isn't considered good enough but Ahamada and Sakyi have a lot of hope invested in them.

This was a championship side and the contrast once they came off for first team picks was clear.
