Another club trusting a young one today- 19 year old Mainoo for Manchester United ahead of a host of experienced players on the bench.

I never said his opinions are crap.
I said he prefers senior players , as he’s entitled to do.
Other managers are willing to trust youth more and will look beyond experience when selecting a team .
He apologised a few weeks ago for denigrating the young players but was at it again yesterday.
He mentioned that Franca had done well yesterday but had to add, ‘ he found it easier at 2-1 down than if he had started.’
Pouring cold water on it rather than just saying ‘he did well and it was very encouraging.’

It’s not the youngsters who have led us to win one game at home all season and turn in some abject performances this season.
It’s the experienced ones.

No doubt the retort will be that the performances would have been worse with the younger players.
Of that we will never know.

All right Patrick , you didn’t actually say he is crap. But the drift of your posts have constantly inferred he hasn’t got the wisdom to handle our complete squad ,young and old..What ! a man that has handled God knows how many players around Europe, He weighed the situation up for Franca, in a way that many a seasoned pro would do. A sensible reasoned response , of course he found it easier ten minutes of fresh legs. What he means is you are going to need 90 minutes, it’s a man’s game , Franca, did well Roy acknowledged it , Franca, will not be put off by that he will have had worse in America.. And if he was he should never be here.
This is Francas first actual stand out ten minutes, and I have seen most if not all of his minutes. He will come he has a lot of ability to develop, letting him think this ten minutes could mean the next ten will be a doddle would be a big mistake , he needs to know you are only as good as your last performance, and Roy does that.
Hodgson uses the squad he has at any one time. His only preference no matter how thin his choice is can these players get somewhere close to what I want from them. If a kid came along with ninety minutes of the sort of sheer hard work and concentration needed in this league they would play , it’s not Saturday mornings with the under fourteens.
Look Patrick ,everyone has their opinion, you’re welcome as such, that’s what these pages are for . I have made mine clear all over these pages. I wil refrain now, you keep questioning the man. I will not question you

It will be ironic if, on Thursday, Doris's grandson, 18 year old Jack skips past Hughes, Riedewald and Ward before slotting home the winner against us whilst Franca and Ozoh look on from the bench

Don't you even go there . . .

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Yes, they were, but, i was replying to silvertop's post & added Guehi in as it was relevant.

And, yes, I accept none were started under Roy.

He is a safe pair of hands in troubled seas. He can't play youngsters unless forced as Moneyballs favours an experienced and settled team when the resources are as (relatively) low as ours.

It intrigues me what the club will do when (alright if) the Academy starts pumping through a couple of players a season. I mean - unless we get as stat savvy as Brighton and Brentford and recruit smarter - will the manager be given the brief to stay up AND bring young players on as most fans on this site seem to want. There is a tension between the two. When we have a team full of Edouards and Wards who are very good but journeymen in this division, do we really have the space to blood youth as, say a Man City could?

On the issue of Roy, I support him fully in the situation he is trying to deal with. But that’s it he can not be asked to carry on.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our academy came up with two racing certainties every year, I’d love it. It’s a big ask, and we really are not anywhere near it yet. It’s always about quality, the proof is in our squad , Olize, Eze, and Guehe, were either under twenty one or just out, all at international level when we bought them in. Can any of our younger players match them ? I don’t think so. We have what we thought were promising players out, not one in the championship, and no one setting great levels.
Most of the young players making any impact elsewhere are already in the England under twenty one group or if not from the same with a top football nation.
Added to that as you say do we have the space to blood youth. For me it’s a case of playing conditions to make space, I,e all the time we spend too much of the season. Struggling to avoid a relegation, it gets harder and harder, especially if the record alone says it’s not the best quality you use.
In the big clubs ,we all know who they are, actually getting them in is. easier because
they are surrounded by a winning team full of class acts ,it’s different stress, for them,
And all to often they have done a bit of work elsewhere successfully, we can’t often claim that. I don’t think it’s all bad news, Ozoh, or something like , is coming along nicely, JRS just needs a bit more upper body going on.
Franca, and Ahamada, I don’t look at in the same light ,they are a real investment, a little slow to pay a dividend.

Bang on, not just tired legs, but tired minds having to be on the back foot the whole time - it is a game of probablities as well and defending in your own third for so long has a predictable loosing outcome. Roy is not a manager for the modern game. Let's be clear, when he "rescued" us last season, it was with a run of really easy fixtures, but the season is not like that unfortunately and now his tactics do not work, especially when it comes to coaching the talented youth on our bench!

We've conceded a goal after the 80th minute in six of our last eight games, costing us eight points.

Unbelievably, all six of these goals were scored by opposition substitutes.

We only made the first substitution in two of those games and both were due to injury.

Our in-game management is costing us dearly. Roy is reactive, rather than proactive, and even then he's far too slow. We can all see what's coming in these games and he just does nothing about it until it's too late.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Agree completely, and the numbers are pretty damning - surely if we have any sort of sports science/data team, that sort of thing jumps off the page at them.

Eze shouldn't have been left out there for 90 minutes yesterday following his injury, and his tired tackle for the match-winning penalty shows exactly why.

Roy clearly has no faith at all in the squad players, but I view that more of a Roy problem than with the players themselves - as recently as City away Ozoh, Ahamada and Franca have all shown themselves as capable of impacting games at this level, and yet we just watch the same players run themselves into the ground game after game. He's started Hughes in the Eze role previously, so even if he doesn't trust one of the younger lads, just stick Hughes in there and see the game out.

Just baffling.

Totally agree. Medical guys have told Roy not to rush Eze back, ridiculous tgat he kept him on. Ahamada is a player I rate, he was a regular in the Bundeliga but Roy hardly gives him a sniff. He should have been on with Franca both of whom would have helped relieve the burden on the defence. I also am of the opinion that Andersen is getting peed off with the way we play

Yep, so many options to replace Eze yesterday - an argument can be made for any of Hughes, Schlupp, Ozoh or Franca, depending on what you’re trying to achieve, but to go with none is just poor game management.

A more progressive manager absolutely finds solutions in our squad - Roy seems more interested in pointing out how bad our squad is.
