A percentage of it anyway since his replacement will have to be paid.

I said kitty, not transfer kitty, wages have to come out of the pot obviously but no one will be paid the silly money offered to Zaha.

There's a lot of pant-wetting on this topic. Roy is a good, proven manager, so why shouldn't he continue to lead us? All this stuff about not having a long-term plan; so what? Apart from Klopp and Pep, how many PL managers on a 3 or 4 year contract as part of yet another 'long-term plan' ever stay to the end before being sacked? Roy is our manager; end of. Let's get behind him and the team and have a rollickin' good season.

Lots on here seem to assume this is all part of a master plan, Roy nurtures Paddy for a year and hey presto Paddy leads us to the promised land.

I don't see that level of planning by the board.

Roy however great he is/was is in the twilight years. We clearly looked at other managers but failed to appoint.

We have taken the easy way out. Will it work? Only time will tell

No big deal, especially if we’d ended up with someone sacked by Leeds, Watford, Norwich, Leicester, Wolves or Southampton. There’s a long list of managers now on the merry go round that we could’ve ended up with, so on reflection im quite happy we’ve stuck with Roy

Exactly that.

Could be far, far worse. Let's hypothetically say we still spend no money but bring in somebody completely untired and untested.

Without the funds to invest in team, to be quite frank, Roy is probably best we can hope for next season. Ended last term strongly, has the experience and track record to avoid catastrophe etc. etc.

Ideal? No. Far from catastrophe? Yes.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Because Roy can get a bit weary at his advanced age?

Could actually be a good descriptor for him. I'm in my 30's yet 90 mins of football Tuesday looks to have put me out for a month!

Still raring at his grand old age though!

So, who in your experienced opinion, should we sign that's going to give us top half finishes & possibly Europe.

Paddy learning from probably the most experience manger in the Prem, is a risk far better than anyone else, UNLESS they happen to be a Prem winner & fit in with the Palace ethos . . .

Who said anything about top half finishes? If Paddy Macarthy got the Palace job in a years time based on working as Roy's number 2 I'd be happy if we were still in touch of safety once they sacked him. Working as a number 2 no matter how much the players respect him means absolutely nothing when we are talking about his ability to take the top job.
Plus, thanks for describing my opinion as 'experienced' but you are wrong there (not for the first time it seems) I have only the experience of what I have witnessed down the years in all my time supporting Palace and watching football in general. Same as you I imagine. Only difference I can see is that I dont look at the clubs business decisions romantically. I look at things that make sensible business and footballing sense. For me? gambling £100m+ annual income an ex player whose done well with the reserves because, lets face it, he's an ex player is pretty pathetic.

The players will be bored of Grandad by the New Year. The Greek pavaroti nutter at Forest would have sacked Cooper by then so Parish with his fake sun tan will put him in charge and start our long term plan. Sorted.

But it’s all within context.

We are not big enough to attract a “ World Class replacement “ as you say. So we would look to replace at a different level should we give the job to Paddy and it doesn’t work out. In the same way we would if an external hire didn’t .

If in a years time Dougie and Roy think that Paddy is up to the task then he may get a chance

I cant see how Dougie and Roy are going 'think Paddy is up to the task' based upon him doing a year in a number 2 role. You might as well give the job to Freedman. At least we know he has been a no.1 and can do the job. And before anyone says anything, I absolutely do NOT want Freedman anywhere near Palace's dug out either!
What is Palace fans obsession with ex players? It makes no sense. There are loads of promising young managers out there with more experience than Paddy that would on paper at least do a better job if 'young upcoming coach' is the route Parish wants to go down. I'd suspect as a businessman that doesn't like risk then NOT.
