The man charged with these atrocities holds a Portuguese passport and settled status in the UK. If he was a migrant then it was a long time ago as it's reported he grew up in Haverford West, Pembrokeshire and attended Nottingham University. Much more to be revealed yet, none of will change anything. These were senseless crimes for which severe punishment is due. However, what's now clear is he wasn't a recent immigrant as some appeared to assume.

Not that it makes any difference to the victims but the BBC says he is a Portuguese / Guinea Bissau national who's here due to his Portuguese citizenship.

Did people assume he was an immigrant or didn't they? Which people are you talking about?

Yes, of course, Valdo Amissão Mendes Calocane of no fixed abode is as British as roast beef. He isn’t British but he does have settled status so could almost certainly obtain citizenship if he applied. Do you understand settled status? Regrettably there are many people of no fixed abode. More every year so far as I can tell.

You can usually apply for British citizenship once you've had settled status for 12 months.

I won’t light fires by making assertions. Read this thread, and others on social media and reach your own conclusions. There’s enough evidence there to do that.
