And the problem with that is what exactly..?? Look as my previous posts on here - last time round I was very much in the Hodgson out camp and was delighted when we appointed Vieria - but after a really good start he simply run out of ideas and arguably the football became even worse than the darkest times of “Roy Ball”..!! Hodgson was reappointed - I even set up a thread “Parish got to get this right” - and hats off to him he did - you cannot deny our end of season form and style of play was miles better than anything under Vieria…!! Eze not.always picked/trusted by Vieria - became the player we all knew/hoped he could be - Olise became far better - forming a great partnership/understanding with Eze - we went from wondering where our next point was coming from to anticipating - having genuine hope of getting something out of every game - on that Leeds away will live long in my memory - best Palace performance I have seen for years. How has all that happened..?? Well you don’t have a CV like Roy and Ray’s (don’t under estimate Ray Lew’s influence/impact) - if you are a poor management team.!! It just shows what a good. and highly experienced Manager and Coach can do with a squad with some real quality..!! So coming back to my question “your problem with this is what” - we could do/be in a lot worse position than having people at the top that.are Palace through and through like us - my only reservation on that is Parish - whilst no doubt well intended - just out of his financial depth - in the crazy world of todays Premier League…!! But in summary be careful what you wish for..!! COYP A very good summary, i think Parish dosent want to get in the Benteke, Meyer, Sakho situation of having 6 figure wages with no sell on value, which i 100% agree with.

When Patrick Vieira was appointed I noticed he was previously manager of Nice. His first season was relatively successful, but in his second season he was sacked in the December after a run of 5 losses. I wonder if that fact was in Steve Parish's mind when he decided to give Vieira the old heave-ho after 12 games without a win? I also wonder if there were other reasons behind the scenes involved in him getting the bullet? After all, Palace had come to the end of a string of rather difficult matches, and a bunch of games that looked quite winnable were coming up. I wouldn't mind Roy staying for another season. During the latter part of his tenure as Palace manager I agree the football was dire, but he kept us up. When he came back in March, it seemed that the team was revitalised and played with a freedom that had been missing for a long time. Keep hold of our gems, a couple of shrewd signings, and I am sure we can see an improvement on where we end up in the League.

Seems very much like unfortunately it’s gonna be another year if Hodgson. Are we actually even searching for a replacement or is parish just making it drag on so he can make out his tried to find someone else? No links other than potter and that has gone silent. Seems like we have no ambition at all. Also very convenient that it has gone quiet and Hodgson is on holiday? Edited by EagleAlan78 (10 Jun 2023 12.38pm) Yeah, they have just decided not to bother. Its not like its important or anything

Yes, but I'm not sure that was down to Roy's influence. To give credit where it's due, he did say more than once, including once before he took over, that he was coming to a team with better players than on his earlier stint.

QUOTE JRW2 I think there was discord in the dressing room toward end of PV's stint. And that they were not happy with his rigid tactics.and maybe training. Roy and Ray gave them more freedom to do their own thing and they are (were) playing with smiles on faces again and with more attacks forays forward.

To give credit where it's due, he did say more than once, including once before he took over, that he was coming to a team with better players than on his earlier stint. One of Roy's assets is that he uses his resources effectively. When he was with us before he inherited a huge reliance on Zaha. He had to make do with minimal spends in the transfer windows. He's come back to a team that has had an injection of quality and youth that can get results without Wilf. He gave the players confidence to play higher up the pitch and risk possession more than Vieira did. Pundits and journos alike were saying that Vieira could have achieved a similar points total had he not been sacked. We'll never know the answer to that one, but the signs didn't look good and Parish had to make a tough call. I think the debate should have been more about how many potential points Roy would have secured in that New Year winless run. My estimation is that we would have got 3 or 4 more points under him. As to the OP, get a grip. You have no idea what's going on behind the scenes any more than I have. But I'll guarantee things are happening.
