The myth is not that they get sacked, but the idea that it's for holding an opinion. It's not and your "example" conclusively proves it. That guy lost his job for failing to do his job. As a teacher your job is not to teach what you believe but to teach what your employer instructs you to teach. You must either leave your personal convictions at home, or refuse the contract. That's your choice. If you accept the contract, you accept the terms. They can express as much opposition to political agendas when in their own time and to whoever they want, but in their employer's time they cannot. By all means, have a pop at the curriculum in a school, or the standards expected by an employer, but not at the right of any employer to insist they are followed once set. Everybody cares about merit being the only measurement when determining suitability. Merit includes understanding and following what is required to do the job and the necessity to set aside personal beliefs when doing so. You can no more have a fervent believer in any one faith who is unable or unwilling to set that aside when teaching religious studies than you could have a holocaust denier teaching modern history. There's actually a lot within this that I'd agree with. However, this doesn't happen to the left. I was a teacher for enough years to see teachers pushing their politics in their teaching and it's just accepted as normal. So while I agree with this in priciple.....no teacher should be doing that, left or right. There are huge double standards. As you have been shown...the right get the boot, but the left don't and that's because the left are in charge of the contracts. As I stated, when these roles were reversed people weren't sacked or booted because they were left wing. Just as you are allowed to use this platform whereas the opposite version of you wouldn't survive long on the bbs.

Instinct tells me that it's more likely something else was what really caused it, but I need to understand all the details before passing judgement. I don't use the BBS but I cannot imagine any forum banning someone simply because their politics differed. It has to be something more than that. It's my experience that the right, as a noisy minority these days, frequently position themselves as martyrs.

Provide some evidence for that assertion. I think it's a popular right-wing myth. People can hold whatever opinions they want but when employed they cannot behave as they want. They are required to abide by their employer's terms and conditions. I expect that any dismissals are for breaches of them and not because they hold any particular opinion. Repeatedly mouthing off about many things will get you sacked. Authoritarian right-wing control is much more a real threat. Unless they are Gary Lineker!

The difference being that one was trying to be funny whilst making a spicey comment, and the other wasn't. Not that there's a hope in hell of you seeing that. As I said yesterday you don't possess a sense of humour. It is as clear as day that both were attempting to be humorous - as you well know. Not that there's a hope in hell of you admitting that as your prevarication is endless.

The left can't answer a simple question and that question is "what is a woman?"

I would suspect that no one will quite reach the ideal and then loads will give up. The most radical will hold out for a while, until they will turn on each other for some micro aggression or another. Then there will be blue hair, charity shop shirts, inappropriate piercings and crap tattoos flying all over the place.
