Wisbech - I agree 100% with your first paragraph but suspect that the left/remainer thing may have to come into play a bit.
From what I have read and listened to, Raab was a tough taskmaster and they didn't like it.
Apparently - "abrasive" management is now construed as bullying in the workplace - a fact that will not have helped him.
My take is that there is something there that the public will never know about, otherwise Sunak would have stood up for him - or should have anyway.
It would have been a good bit of judgement, after all - what is wrong with expecting people to do the jobs that they are paid for?
There were people making or backing up complaints who never even met the man - are they still in their jobs - of course they are!
Employment protocol was apparently not followed by the Civil Service either - maybe Ministers are not covered by that?
Whichever way it went, it was a witch hunt and it is a dangerous precedent.
Whatever or whoever they don't like they can now find a way to get rid of someone regardless of the fact that half of them are still sitting at home on our pay!
I am no lover of Raab but whoever is in power - the CC needs to work for them with complete impartiality.

I have an email on file sent a few months ago by a Minister to my MP over an issue she raised on my behalf. This indicates that, this Minister at least, is sh*t scared of the civil servants in their department and unwilling to challenge them over detailed decisions they have made. It feels completely counterintuitive to me. I have another meeting with my MP scheduled which will test how far she is prepared to go!

From Bristow (remember the great tea-trolley disaster) to Raab and Gray.

Civil Service rules ok?

No need for whips we have other ways to administrate.

Health department officials ‘raised concerns’ about Steve Barclay’s behaviour.

If he doesn't get his tea and biccies, it's serious.

From my recollection when I criticised senior civil servants, you were fully supportive of them

I cannot recall that but I try to treat everything on its merits. I have no idea how senior the civil servants are who have been dealing with me but it’s gradually been going up a ladder of more important sounding titles. The responses though make Sir Humphrey sound like the author of the clear English guide. They are repetitive, state the obvious and studiously avoid the point.

Is this the "Boris Johnson owes me 10,000" fantasy again?

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.
