Well, it’s just another piece of nonsense that is infecting football. Taking a Knee, having half-a-dozen kids in toe when the teams come out, synchronised dancing before the kick-off. A minute’s applause/silence because the groundsman’s dog has died, etc.

The combined effect of which is what…? A combined 15 minutes delay to game time over the next year?

Who cares.

The Muslim players could go to the side of the pitch, but luckily the governing body of their industry have decided to make a miniscule concession to allow them to practice their faith without having to be at a competitive disadvantage - it's the sort of decision any reasonable employer would make, and any reasonable person would not have an issue with.

Pandering to religious nonsense is something I have a major problem with.
However, in this case, I presume it is about a practical need to remain hydrated during a game, which is more difficult when fasting.
A lot of people fast these days for dietary reasons, and the same need applies.

As long as it doesn't go beyond the practical, then I have no problem.
If we start having half time prayers on the pitch, then I'm done with football.
The game has already strayed into territory that is feeble minded at best.

Is there an absolute biological need for people to toss pancakes?
Not sure why a player being allowed to break their fast, when there is a stop in play is so upsetting, when arguably more time is spent on players simulating injury and certainly more time is spent with VAR. Believe it or not, football is popular with Muslims.

If any religious mumbo-jumbo is important to a player, he should asked to be dropped from the games affected.

Excluding people in their workplace based on religious beliefs seems like a really reasonable idea.

They would self-exclude by asking to be dropped.

the Queen had two birthdays. Could footballers cancel the game and go to the pub ?

does Charles have one birthday or two ? As defender of the Faiths...this atheist is very upset with him.

I really wish you would read, think and then post.

For Sunnis it is Sunnah to break fast (a glass of water and a fruit) at Maghrib, following which they must pray. Breaking fast takes just about the same length of time as Wilf rubbing his shins and complaining to the referee.

Is the right statement to make about the whole discussion. BTW, when I look at the performance of Jordan Ayew - as far as I am informed, a practising Muslim - since the beginning of Ramadan (two days after the Arsenal game), I have even more understanding for this nice gesture.

If they didn't and played, then there would be no break in proceedings.
