Even if the points comparison season on season isn’t exactly correct, it’s difficult to argue with your assessment.
Concern over performances in the last couple of months are not restricted to just a few knee jerk fans who react to each defeat as a crisis.
If we repeat our form over the last 11 games for the rest of the season we will be relegated so the rot has to stop.
For what it’s worth, I think we will improve but I am concerned as to where the goals will come from.
A lot of faith is being placed on the return of Zaha, but even he looked out of form before his injury showing none of his early season spark.
I think it could be a case of looking for three teams who will be worse than us.

You do realise we are 4 points worse off than we were after 22 games last season (29 to 25)?

Even so, I don't believe anybody who saw the game Saturday would espouse sentiments amounting to 'everything is fine':

- We've won only one game in 11 League/cup fixtures.
- We've scored 6 goals in that time, hardly any from open play, and conceded 15
- We've been knocked out of both cups.
- We have the lowest work rate in the League.
- Our last game against our rivals we had 26% possession, one shot on target, one corner, a goal against us incorrectly ruled out and we were gifted an equaliser, from a set piece of course, by a goalkeeping howler.

There's a difference between fierce uproar/moaning based on subjective or ill-informed, panicked emotion and making sincere points backed by evidence. Choosing blind optimism and rose-tinted viewing of things equates to the same as the former for me.

At the very least everything does seem precarious and the nature of a true football fan is to worry day to day let alone match to match on how things will play out. It is also expected that bad runs, let alone performances, will be met with scrutiny and complaint. There's plenty to be picked at of late and until improvement arrives I imagine will continue to be highlighted.

I garland your sagacious comments with concurrence.

Regarding Olise and Eze, the club invested in the belief that they would make the step up, viewing that they had the potential to do so. Both still have a lot to do to make the grade. One looks like he may do so, the other I don't think so. Both have ability, but the game is mental as well as physical, and application to the task is everything. We have a surfeit of attacking midfielder / winger types on the books, and I don't think we need both. Rak Sayki will return and make the breakthrough, and knows what it means to play in a Palace shirt.

Last season we had a midfield player that contributed 8 goals. He hasn't been replaced.

In terms of '' Direction of Travel '', we have indeed seen some abject performances. We have also seen some improved ones, namely at Chelsea, home to Man U and Newcastle.

Palace are doing what they did before under Roy. Bank on surviving on the cheap and then have a reset in the summer. It's undeniably painful to watch and is a clear indication that very little progress has been made in the last decade.

A lot of focus has been on the managers performance, but I think more scrutiny of how the club is being run by it's owners is just as relevant

Maybe just maybe it could all fall into place? Their plan maybe the academy that is now top class? It will take time , but it could be there long term plan, Im not silly I know it takes a while to blood youngsters into the prem but we have seen signs it really could happen , next season I 100% believe we will see a lot more of Ozoh and killian Phillips, and I know it’s a big step up but I do believe rak sakyi could be a long term replacement for Zaha.
There’s lots of optimism to be had about our position, it’s not all negative ,

There are more than 3 teams worse than us , I would much rather be in our position than Southampton , Bournemouth , Leeds , Everton , West Ham , I also believe we are better than Leicester, notts forest , and even Aston Villa when at full strength,

I will say again, best Brentford Saturday , all this negativity will go out the window for a week until we lose against Liverpool then will all come out again until we win again and will all change

I will make this may last comment on this and then do some work.

Not that long ago we played Brighton at the Amex. You may remember it. We barely had a touch. We had 1 attack in each half and somehow contrived to score in both of them. We are still laughing about it now.

So why has this game produced such a vitriolic reaction?

After that match, our performances were not repeated game after game. So why assume it will be this time?

Is it us? Have we changed? Has our expectation grown so much in such a short time?

If you think we’re better than all of those teams I’d love to have some of what you’re on.
The teams mentioned don’t have to field two keepers on the bench as we have had to do on a number of occasions this season.
Some of them have at least far better options in both full back positions, central midfield and up front.
In terms of genuine Premier League ability on a CONSISTENT basis we have Guita, Anderson, Guehi, Zaha and McCarthur when fit.
The jury is still out on Olise, Eze, Doucoure and Mitchell.
They’re hit and miss but could still make it if they step up consistency levels.
It’s too early to assess Richards.
Mateta and Edouard have shown nothing to indicate that they will be reliable goalscorers at Premier League level season upon season.
Ward, Clyne, Tomkins, Ayew dand Schlupp have all seen better days and are not long term solutions.
I’m not talking the club down but making what I consider to be a realistic assessment .
As to your point that if we beat Brentford the sentiment will change , I think you may be right.
That’s the fickle nature of being a football fan.

We are better than those teams because we are above them in the table, have been all season and will be at the end, beaten most of them this season Southampton Bournemouth Leeds wolves West Ham , we will also beat them all again , we will finish probably where we are strengthen in the summer blood a few youngsters and push forward as to what the plan probably is , then you can all run back to me and tell me how right I was when we finish 8th next season with our highest points tally ever

No mate after 22 games last season we had 24 points , honestly count them …..

We did indeed.

However the season before, under Roy, we had 29 for a bit of perspective (I looked at wrong season ).

Our highest tally ever would be 70pts. I predict that that would put us a tad higher than 8th place.

Eze and Olise need better players around them to get the full potential out of them.

Firstly, they need better full backs behind them. Mitchell has been so disappointing lately, whilst Ward/Clyne are stop gaps.

Secondly, we so badly need a better midfield who can press and retain the ball.

Lastly, we need forwards who can put away chances that Eze and Olise can create.

Once again, we are expecting a winger to get us out of trouble.

We'd also have to win 15 of our remaining 16 games.
