More or less everyone posting here has recognised that we have only been 2 or 3 first 11 players away from a very competitive team. Surely the management can see this and the owners can see they wouldn’t have to break the bank to achieve this. But, for some unknown reason we continue to ignore our glaring weaknesses and revert to type by hoping we get through the season with the same old faces. It’s almost like we celebrate and encourage mediocrity at our club. Dougie’s big challenge in the summer was surely to find midfielders to replace our known problems. Even a couple of loans would have helped. If we fail to fill these holes over the Jan window and it results in our move to the relegation zone then I for one would be furious because it is so easily observed and rectified. I dont pretend to be anything. Grow up. Sometimes ignorance needs to be reminded of the past when it is so conveniently forgotten. You think where we are right now is mediocrity? Wow, what a very very very short memory. Do you prehaps believe we are Man United or Chelsea? That we have somehow fallen from grace and need to re find our standard?

As a palace fan and season ticket holder plus user of this forum for some time, I don’t think I’ve ever sincerely moaned about the club. At the very least I think it futile! The football however, a very different matter. I will whine… hysterically so! That’s my right and shoes I care Anyhow, I, personally, find it unlikely but would welcome Danny Ings much as I would prefer PV give JPM or Edouard a run to definitively prove they’re ‘not up for it.’ One may just prove they are! My dear wife and I had planned to go out for a meal on Saturday night however I was an irascible grumpy old gentleman at my splenetic worst after our abject defeat and I visited a Public House by myself.

I empathise entirely Willo! The words 'You're not five years old' and/or 'You're a grown adult and a father' are oft said in my house and I am always the recipient of these sentiments post a Palace performance... or lack of

I hope you don’t carry the same lack of ambition in your life as you portray here. Your righteous history lesson doesn’t bother me just as someone’s pessimism doesn’t bother you. No-one is complaining about our league position, it is the direction we are headed that causes concern.

I don't think this will happen - at his best a definite yes but no evidence he is currently at this level. Feel we really need a similar striker to Haaland to carry the midfield but we won't get one.

Ings looks past his best - however how anyone can turn their nose up at him I am unsure. He also adds the experience Pat has referenced we are lacking. Better than anything we currently have imo.

No matter what striker we may or may not get in, if they dont get the service, they wont score, so, all hypothetical atm.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Better than what we have = better chance of scoring I agree with you to a point, on paper thats what it does look like, in reality its not. Ayews goal he created for himself, Eddys goal came from a lovely thru ball by Wilf, last goal from Mateta came from an Olise cross, so, all 3 of our strikers need different kinds of service. Trouble is, it doesnt happen on any kind of regular occasion which, as you say, given the talent we have, is a crying shame. One thing i have noticed is, we seem to be practicing set pieces more ie Olise corner to Eze = goal. Who do we get in, who is out there & available?
