Yep, very sad news. He was a great keeper, loyal to Palace and a lovely bloke. I can't remember quite what the occasion was except that he attended and spoke at a youth club in Carshalton back in the day and I got his autograph (still have it). Nothing was too much trouble. RIP Stonewall.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

RIP Jacko, and condolences to your family and friends. Started my Palace journey in 1952, and Jacko was my No1 goalie. Thank you for the memories.

Very sad news. He was my hero, from my days as a young boy in ‘69 watching him from the terraces pulling offf great saves to keep us in First division. I could never understand why Malcolm Allison decided to move him on. Orient’s gain was our loss.RiP Jacko

My first Palace goalkeeper, so special to me. The club should have gone on to bigger things in that era, but a lack of ambition put pay to that. RIP

JJ was a great keeper. Had he been playing for a more fashionable club he'd have acquired a shedload of caps. Good keepers in those days caught the ball, whether it was shots or crosses. He caught everthing. One of the most valuable players to ever play for Palace.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

Such sad news. He was a fantastic ‘keeper in every department of the craft. It never mattered if we gave away a penalty, because it was a certainty that he would save it. I never forgave Big Mal for showing him the exit door. I hope there might be some sort of memorial to his memory - though I suppose it already exists in the form of numerous newspaper articles hailing his brilliance.
