Biggest criticism I have of Mitchell is that he doesn't have that sixth sense for danger. He regularly loses his man at the far post at the first hint of movement. Got nowhere near Bamford for his goal yesterday, March against Brighton as two of the recent examples. If he can sort that out, he'll be good enough. I don't see him adding to his England caps anytime soon but he's young enough that it's possible. Needs a coach to really focus on him for a season - doesn't feel like he's had that attention this year.

I can't think of many great left backs that are around at the moment, certainly not outside the big six. Antonee Robinson at Fulham seems to be having a strong season and Estupiñán at Brighton has received plaudits. Other than that I've often seen full-backs as one of the weaker areas of many teams. If you don't have a big budget I guess left back is not a priority. Get a left back who can defend and attack well and within 12 months they are at a big 6 club. That's basically my longwinded way of saying Mitchell is probably good enough for us, but he does need competition, plus a few times in the last couple of years he has looked knackered. If none of the U21 players are considered good enough to step up then we need someone new for next season.

The goal was straight out of a training ground routine, perhaps Leicester had deployed this before,it had been noticed as part of the analysis and Mitchell's role was purely to block the run of Bamford. All speculation! You might want to check what team we were playing old chum.

What is it with folk on here picking holes in our players? Give the boy a break. We all know CPFC is not flush with money so we can't afford elite players. Mitchell may have weaknesses in his game but, he's still only 23 and, on the whole, he is a reasonably solid left back. Like a fine wine he'll improve with age. Picking holes is what makes football interesting. It’s nice to know other peoples opinions to see if they are different from your own. Mitchell is not my favourite player doesn’t mean he hasn’t got my full support. Edited by EddieMac (11 Apr 2023 10.03am)

I agree with EddieMac. He is a very decent left back and to get anyone with the experience he has got now would cost millions. Lets encourage the youngsters and we will reap the rewards. COYP

I am curious to know other peoples views on TM. In my view he is a massive weak link in the side and offers little in defence and even less going forward. He just appears to be really out of his depth and teams target him. The one good attribute he did have was his pace but even that appears to have left him. I really hope we are targeting a new left back come the summer. He’s unfortunately I think a ball watcher. Guehi could possibly get him out of that by screaming at him but I’m not sure he always has the time to help out. I’ve lost count of the number of times he loses someone at his post. Others have suggested that moving into the middle to support the centre half is what he is trained to do but I’m not convinced, I just think it’s poor awareness. If you watch the body position of all great full backs they have an eye on what’s in front and another on who is coming onto the far post from midfield or the wing. I reckon he’s just about adequate at this standard but I’d like to see an upgrade and hope that would encourage Mitchell to improve in the background.

The problem TM has is that he doesn't have competition for his place. Rather embarrassing really that a club with 10 seasons in the PL can only roll out one left back.

I think the idea (lets not call it a plan) was to blag it this season and blood Adamarola next season after a loan spell in the Championship. Well the loan spell fell apart but I think he's still playing well albeit at a junior level.
