One of them has addressed me as "Good day, kind Sir".

Well la-de-da Mr French Man, what's wrong with a 'car hole'?

I've always taken umbrage at the ambiguity here. 'Lewisham' is a London borough and people can sometimes associate the usage of the name with the small surrounding area of the town centre. I say I am from 'Lewisham' meaning the borough and occasionally people assume this whereas more technically I would call home Forest Hill. Depends on who you are talking to I suppose, just wasn't often I'd meet someone, especially professionally, who had the foggiest where Forest Hill was!

Furthermore, I do like the notion of being from 'Bromley' when you live in Penge, that always tickled me as beyond ludicrous bettered only by 'Dulwich' when you were from Brixton, Peckham or Forest Hill!

I never heard anyone do it but there was a supposed trend of pronouncing certain places differently so they lived in
St. Reatham, St. Ockwell, Bat Terr Sear or Clarm.

Heard 'St.Reatham' before Teddy but unfamiliar with others!

Fort Neath was oft used when I was a lad!

There was a story, I heard it about Glasgow, of a bloke who parked his car and was approached by some scallywags who offered to watch his car. He pointed out the slavering Rottweiler in the back seat and said - he minds my car. He came back to find his car on a bricks and a note reading - Hope your dog can change tyres.

I have heard a variation :
Scallywags were told by the driver that he never required them to watch his car as his Rottweiller would ensure that the vehicle was safe, to which they replied "Does he put out fires ?".

You can name all of the forks at a fancy restaurant. And you actually eat soup correctly.

I did a carpet job in a posh ladies house; she offered me and my mate a cup of tea. I don't usually drink tea but when it arrived we both thought it had gone off until she told us it was Lapsong Souchong. I felt like a peasant but my mate came from Belfast and told her he thought it was horrible.

Why did she bring her dog into it?

It tasted like he'd made a significant contribution.
