So as it turns out it is "England Squad and no Palace Players" which I am quite happy about from a very parochial point of view.

I don't even know when the opening game of the tournament is. I expect at some point I may begin to take an interest, but the usual anticipation I feel with a World Cup imminent is completely absent.

My 'googling' of the first game aside Pete I am on the exact same page. I believe it is Saturday evening, the big one, Qatar vs Ecuador.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

In case anyone wants to choose to go out instead, please note that it's actually on Sunday.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Now only James MacArthur and Chris Richards receiving treatment. There should be a full squad when the World Cup ends.

I wouldn't bank on it.

You're right YT. I seem to recall that Eze was seriously injured while training.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Slightly off tangent, but, lets hope Wilf doesn't get injured this afternoon in Ivory Coasts match V Burundi & the next one at the w/e.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Andersen, for me, has been our best player this season so far so it'll be interesting to see how he performs with the world's eyes on him. There can't be many centre-backs with his passing range and I wouldn't be surprised at all if we see some hefty bids in the summer. I really like Guehi, but I think he's at his level at the moment and doesn't quite look ready for England or a CL club (yet). But he's still very young for a centre-back, who generally seem to peak after 25. I do think he needs a bit more aggression and confidence.

Slightly off subject, but I for one will only watch games where England are playing, disgrace it’s being played there for many reasons, so I will switch on at KO and switch off on final whistle, as for our chances, better than most are predicting

Personally I would rather they not get called up.

If they play and play well they will be poached for sure.

If they do go I would rather they sit on the bench.

They are both young enough to do their international stuff after the WC.

That in the main is good common sense but an inflated valuation might be helpful.
