I've been a big PV defender, but if he doesn't play Richards regularly when Andersen returns I will begin to question PV's thinking.

In all fairness Andersen is a very highly rated, experienced international and has always played at the highest level. Richards looks good and we have cover for Guehi and Andersen now. They're almost bound to be injured, serving a ban or needing a rest quite regularly, so there will be plenty of opportunities for Richards now. He's overtaken Tomkins in the pecking order - presumably Tomkins will be off at the end of the season. Apparently O'Brien showing promise too.

Poundland. Nowhere near PL standard. Another classic statement.

I wasn't saying he should start ahead of Andersen or Guehi. However, he looks good enough to earn regular playing time at RB or even LB, and to spell Andersen or Guehi when they're tired or tweaked or flirting with a second yellow card. Defensive midfield in a pinch? We could use his pace and defensive skills there, too.

Richards has had two very good games in a position that looks natural to his attributes. He looks too tall for full back. He seems a superior defender to Andersen but inferior on the ball. Similar to Guehi but a lot taller and maybe better in the air. To be seen. The fact is, we didn't give up a ton of chances to either Newcastle or Man U. The dilemma is when Andersen is back. I would say possession of the shirt and results should determine who plays. Andersen and Guehi need to feel expectations are high Maybe Guehi misses out. His game has gone ever so slightly back this season.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
