I was quite excited when we signed Mick Hill (although I was quite young back then!) because he had a reasonably good scoring record at Ipswich. I didn't think he was all bad - a good target man who did well at receiving and redistributing possession. Needless to say, his goalscoring record at Ipswich wasn't repeated for us (6 in 45) so he moved on. I looked him up on a stats website. Whereas Palace fans of a certain vintage will remember him and perhaps even have an opinion about him, in football terms he was barely noticed, with just 159 professional appearances. He died in 2008 aged 61.
