and only 2 points off the European Conference league! Perspective, please. If we fluff the opportunities provided by our next 7 fixtures then we could well be in the proverbial.

I really do not accept that we are in our current position because of the teams we have played. The reason we are where we are is simple,we have not been good enough, we make silly mistakes give goals away at the end of games, we cannot defend balls in to the box and we lack a decent goalscorer who can get in to the box quickly. It's really Simple we are paying the price for not recruiting correctly in the last window and as a consequence we are looking like we are going to struggle this season.

only 7 games until the transfer window, if we don't do something decent in the next 7, then it's time to panic, at the moment we are corporal Jones.

are you willing to make any allowances for playing 4 tops teams. And then getting 5 points out of the more winnable fixtures?

Don't forget that there are also 2 games in December before the transfer window opens. Also, the Brighton game could be rescheduled this side of the World Cup given that neither of us are involved in Europe.

i thought it opened on 26th Dec, must be dreaming, at least we may have a few injuries, back, ferguson should be fit just as his contract runs out

Valid points. Particularly so if the same things keep happening against non-top 6 opposition, which I suspect they will. At which point our position will be down to the reasons you suggest. Yes, it really is that simple.

This has been a frustrating season so far and just has a bad feeling around it. The World Cup is only making it worse. I'd say we need to win at least three of our next six - even then we might still not be out of the woods. So far, it's been what can go wrong will go wrong - starting with the transfer window and Zaha's situation. All could have been foreseen and avoidable, which makes it all the more annoying. Poor planning this season, poor squad overall - with a half decent first eleven and then nothing to back it up. Combined with a tough fixture list and postponements, the perfect storm.

In this league there are no easy games, you have to take everything you can to survive, the only thing that really counts is your league position and as we are all aware ours is not great at this time and that in turn places great pressure on the team and Manager as every game becomes a must win. Even allowing for the game in hand, its against Brighton away and the way they are playing that will also be just as tough as going to the wealthy six or so!

Not convinced Zaha, Eze, Olise can all start. Let's put it another way: one great player and two good ones. Have we ever won when all three started a match (Willo, where are you)?
We need a bit more grit? too many 'flair' players?

Watford 1-0.

Look at the position after the next 5 games. We desperately need a play maker in midfield, and playing Eze, Wilf , Olise and Ayew together doesn’t work. We have some great players but are being let down by a few who cannot cut it in this league anymore.

This is the nub of the matter. We need a composed, skilful midfield general - we just don't have this missing ingredient.
The problem is that these are like gold-dust and it is very unlikely we can find a suitable one in the next transfer window.
This discrepancy was to some extent masked by the performances of Gallagher - now he's gone we are going to be in trouble.

We had the same amount of points after the same amount of games last season with Gallagher.

Not sure, what point your making, Doucoure is a better player than Gallagher.
