It’s not that Southgate is too cautious, it’s more about not having the correct players in the 11 or having a balance in the team. I can start with Pope last night and he didn’t have a clue how to play it short or long. Plus those at the back like Maguire can’t play short ball football. We had Saka playing out of position making him look terrible. We all know he is one of our gems but Southgate didn’t give him a chance in that position. As for the midfield, the balance was awful and don’t get me on our forwards where our best defender is Kane? Southgate doesn’t have a clue and needs to go now. Sadly that won’t happen :-(

It IS that Southgate is too cautious. He picks the team. And picks a team to keep things tight. Including picking GK's that are better going long, and CB's who can only really defend.

We scraped through the euros looking dull and out of ideas, playing with no freedom and creativity.

Saka at wing back is so obviously a bad call its funny.

Most manager would walk over hot coals to have the talent at their disposal that we do.

The fact that for England we are not seeing Trent whipping balls in to Kane is just criminal.

The FA wont sack him now as we had a good Euros and he's Mr FA. He'll likely go after we limp out of the world cup.

Since Friday I've yet to read a word anywhere supporting GS. Although Wayne Rooney thought he was doing a good job a week or so ago. He also thinks Donald Trump was a good president.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

I one hundred percent agree. There are obvious shortcomings that a Sunday League coach would spot. Yet, despite everyone (basically) pointing out the obvious, Southgate does not see what's right in front of his face.
There is no excuse for England's recent performances. All were set up by the manager and he should take the blame on the chin, rather than come out with the crap he has.
The blame is mainly with the manager - my criticism of the players is that they cannot think for themselves. They should be pointing out how sh1t the tactics are - in the press if no one else is going to listen. We'll soon be rid of this rubbish then.
Would Gareth get a League One/Championship job then? He wouldn't bey first choice at any level, frankly. It's a shame, as one of our own, I'd hoped he'd be the Messiah. All he seems to be is a not very naughty boy.
Get a winner in, that is the first criterion. Not an also ran, yes man.

I was going to start a Germany thread but you might as well just substitute Germany for Italy in the comments.

Wtf is Maguire doing playing one of the pivotal defensive roles?

0-2 and they still won’t do anything about it.

Surprise surprise, Maguire loses the ball again.

Best comment on the BBC website last week in response to Phil Foden saying they bang them in and score for fun in training and someone posted up

“Of course they do, they are playing against our defence”

I’d rather Peter Taylor or Trevor Francis in charge than Southgate. Decent bloke. Utter beige as a manager.

Maguire out.

Even the BBC is saying he shouldn't be picked, what is Southgate up to or has Harry got the negatives.
